Magnet or not

Just spent 4 days on the pigeons over wheat stubble ,first day 10 shells and the magnet 4 hours shooting 8 birds, second day 10 shells no magnet 23 birds 4 hours shooting ,third day 10 shells and magnet 9 birds and today 10 shells no magnet 23 birds for four hours.

Maybe the magnet was scaring the birds or maybe just coincidence, but the magnet is now in the shed I will not be in a hurry to use it again, anyone else had similar experiences.

mine is in the shed & staying there as spooked birds time & time again . I use a flapper & dead birds with much more success although have just got 2 dippas, tme will tell

:good: +1 its hardly pigeon heaven down here in N Somerset but i get much more luck with the electric flapper than the magnet. Only exception for me might be in a standing crop.

Two days on the trot is about the max you can get away with on the same field and even then not at the same spot. It's easy to spot whether the magnet is working or not, any birds that keep veering off at the last minute is telling you to either change the location of the magnet or put it away altogether.

Today with the Magnet zero without 4 so will be putting the magnet in the shed ,never had magnets or shells when my dad was shooting and he use to have a lot of success using the dead birds minus their eyelids as decoys.

I used the magnet today and it pulled them in a treat , but my fields haven't been shot for a couple of weeks and I wont be going on the same field for at least a week .

You will shoot more pigeons by leaving it a week rather than shooting it nigh on every day.

And as far as removing the eye lids , forget it , another old wives tale

Glad you find it amusing Motty I suppose you have 40 or 50 years experience behind you,one talel that my dad told me many years ago which is amusing is that shortly before the outbreak of WW2 my dad and a few others were being trained in the correct way to throw a hand granade one man from Norfolk thru it vertically upwards, need I say more.......

Sorry, I fail to see the correlation between cutting off a pigeons eyelids for no reason and an idiot from Norfolk who throws like a girl.

By the way, having 50 years experience means nothing if you may be doing it wrong.

I think we could be missing a trick here motty , just think how many more we might shoot if we start performing surgery on the dead ones :good:
