How long have you waited ?

I applied as advised, for my shotgun cert renewal on June 3rd. My certificate expired September 1st and have heard nothing since. I phoned for a section 7 but was refused as this would take up too much time. The staffs police informed me that I cannot purchase ammo or a new shotgun. They were quick enough cashing my cheque in June.

Has anyone else have an idea of the time scale involving staffs/ west midlands area ?

i think that in this case you should be entitled to a sect 7 temporary licence, you sent in your renewal in good time, if my maths are correct about 4 months now and you still have not had anything in the way of a licence.

I hope mine wont take that long, it could be costly.

Your maths are incorrect. It's actually three months from start of June to start of September,

We're in October :) I know time stands still in Boston (sadly my hometown) but its still 4 months from 3rd June to 3rd October.[/quote

Your absolutely right i stand corrected.time does go slowly here but the firearms department doesn't thankfully.

And surely boston can't be a bad place to live after all thousands of migrants like it.

Without a valid certificate or a S7 permit you are in fact in illegal possession of firearms regardless of what your licensing authority or constabulary tells you. You need to get your shooting organisation on this a lot sooner than ASAP.

FWIW? Staffs Police sent me a sec 7 permit in Sept with no problem then quickly remedied the situation.

Don't think this applies to SGC sec 7 but on FAC sec 7 You are not entitled to possess expanding ammunition which includes exp missiles.

Mine were temporarily lodged with my RFD.

I'm with staffs, licence expiry date 8/2015. Posted my application and chq in may.

Got quick response to confirm receipt then it all went quiet.

Couple of calls over last month advised they had backlog but not to worry so long as I have letter confirming receipt I'm legal.

Got a text message 3 weeks ago asking to call the office which I did. When I finally got through they explained it would be a telephone interview that needs to be recorded and that I'd be called back within 20 mins once they set it up.

No call back and another half a dozen calls to the office over last two weeks and I finally get a call back.

Interview completed and explained I've got paid day at the end of the month that I need to produce license for.

They were good to their word in promising to get issued ASAP.

License arrived this morning !!

Good luck anyone in staffs

Cheers

J

Had similar problem with Hampshire Police on 2 occasions.

1st being Shotgun certificate renewal 3 months after renewal date phoned them up asking if all ok as it was very late was told you are covered as we have your renewal in time and we have been short staffed due to illness.

2nd being FAC application had my interview with FEO all ok he was happy with everything then as I was going for dual cert FAC and Shotgun the officer said I need your shotgun cert as you getting a new one in 2 weeks, months later after phoning several times I stated I had been invited clay shooting and needed some cartridges and not got a cert, the answer was well you are covered as your old cert is live until we issue a new one and ask a friend who shoots to buy some cartridges for you. This just added fuel to the fire as I said that I phone and he said when and I then told him I was told that it was on there desk to process the following week this was a month before last phone call.

Not a good service at all if I done this in my job I would be fired out the door.

I have been informed by my gunsmith that I am looking at November time for renewal that will make it around six months from a June the third application.

I hope my new cert is dated accordingly and not the expiry one. I have a feeling it will reflect an on time process.

You should have a S7 from the 02/09/15,they will not give a S7 unless the old cert has expired. This is Durhams policy & was confirmed they are correct by BASC Edited by Davyo

As I understand it, the S7 temporary cert is specifically there to cover instances where a person would be in illegal possession of firearms due to no fault of their own e.g. short term possession in the event of the named cert holder croaking it. This is why you cannot purchase guns and ammo with an S7 cert. It wasn't designed to bridge gaps where a force is delaying in issuing a new cert, but it is accepted practice to do so in order to keep people legal.

Get onto Staffs and insist on a Section 7 permit ASAP and if you have any problem, get onto BASC - you are technically not in legal possession of your guns, whatever the force says.

(FYI I was on a S7 temp cert at renewal earlier this year )
