just had a call today from one of my perms near durham that a large flock of birds are feeding on the rape seems abit early to me any views guys going to check tomorrow

Have a look to see whether or not the rape is direct drilled. If it is it may be the old barley that they are finding.

I have seen a decent flock [80 or so] on some very well established rape recently. Looking through the binoculars it was clear the birds were just resting up there.

I does seem a tad early for pigeons to be feeding on rape leaf but you never know. No doubt JDog is correct.

I predict they may not be on the rape in these parts until well into next year, there is a massive acorn crop, and that's their preferred food around here.

Cat.

Like wise here, plenty of acorns which will followed by beech mast, masses of bean fields this year which is keeping them happy at the moment.
