Mr Wasp
Evening people Id be grateful for some advice. I received a call from a farmer asking me to go to about 90 acres where the crows are having a feast on the new wheat sprouting. I called there this afternoon and sure enough there were plenty of crows on several fields so i plan on going tomorrow. However, surprisingly (to me anyhow) there were quite a number of pigeons flying around as well . I intend to target the crows particularly as the farmer has specifically asked me to do so but can i mix a few pigeon decoys and a flapper in the set up as well with the hope of bagging a few at the same time or am i being greedy? I don't want to put the crows off coming in by putting the pigeon decoys out. If they will work together should i put crows one side and some pigeons the other perhaps? Many thanks for any tips. Guest rimotu66
I cannot see that been a problem as we also mix crow decoys in with pigeons when pigeons are the target. Don't forget though that the farmer has asked you to target the crows so it would be best to hit them first and go for the pigeons another day. kenholland
if you do decide to put pigeon decoys out keep them well away from crows don't bother with flapper I found it spookes the crows or as said shoot pigeons another day. Bobba
We shot yesterday. As usual we had both pigeon and crow decoys out and a pigeon magnet. We tend to set the pigeoon pattern first then scatter crow decoys in front and to the sides. Works for us. Some 20 pigeons, 12 crows and two jackdaws. Watch nature. You will often see crows and pigeons in close proximity. Also watch the crows. If they come for a look see and turn off then take in the magnet and see if that alters things. Sometimes it spooks them. No day is the same.
JDog
However crows will be interested in the wheat drilling for longer than pigeons will. Pigeons only take what is on top. Crows can dig down to the grain and pull up a new shoot.
Scully
We never have just crows or just pigeons set out, we mix and match every time. Works well.
