Shropshire Clay Shooting - hidden gems!

Hi all!

First time poster on this forum, just wanted to say hi!

Am fairly new to clay shooting (started in Feb this year) and am really enjoying weekends out on the clay grounds. I started off going to Park Farm (Phil Sanders) outside Ombersley which is a fairly nice ground but limited on days offered. Recently started going to Griffin-Lloyd shooting ground in mid wales and have found it to be a really good course layout and open 7 days too!

My question really is, have any of you seasoned shooters got any hidden gem clay shooting grounds around shropshire / Worcestershire / Gloucestershire that you might be willing to divulge on this forum? Would also be nice to meet some more guns with similar interests in the local area too (I am based around 20 miles from Kidderminster in south shropshire area)........ God that sounds likes dating request!

Anyways, any advice or tips to new shooter welcome!

Thanks all

Andy

Thanks for the welcome.

Ollie, would be more than happy to share a few shots sometime of you're up for it! Never been further south than Ombersley so if you fancy a joint outing to scope the grounds then I'm in! Have read up about cannon club but yet to go so if you need moral support and a spare set or barrels then let me know and we'll make a date for an outing etc

Cheers

I'm in Stourbridge near Kidderminster. Local grounds are cross guns in kinver, HWSG near Tardebigge, cannon near halesowen, forehill near Hopwood, Clent shooting ground. All have different things to offer, it really depends on what suits you. Happy to give advice on any I've mentioned

Fauxdelga is a good ground to visit, offering ABT, DTL skeet, sporting and compak sporting. The ABT and DTL are under cover. West midlands shooting ground is another one, though only open on a Tues for just turn up and shoot, currently on winter time time table offering skeet and escorted sporting (12 pm to 4 pm), in summer season they have Skeet, compak sporting and sporting, open practice think 5 pm to 9 pm, but you can pre book earlier times. Its a great layout for sporting and the stands vary week to week, normally the max time a layout is on is two weeks even then they swap over which way the clays are released, which does change the way one shoots them.

There's also Mickley Hall another good ground, with hosts Scott and John always willing to help, the sporting layouts have stands that are enclosed by a sound screen to reduce noise, but does not detract from what they offer. Normally each stand has a choice of 3 traps offering a choice of clays of different difficulties suitable for all types of shooter.

Doveridge is another of the good grounds offering a good variety of targets from beginner to experienced shooter, been a while since I have been though, if still the same a small section is closed off if coaching is being done.

I'd be well up for a meet up.

My local ground is Cannon Clay which I am a member of. It's near Romsley as others have mentioned.

I have also been to:

Griffin Lloyd (brilliant place, awesome high pheasant stands)

Doveridge (very professional layout)

Forhill (toughest ground by far for me, but very cheap cartridges make it easier!)

Millride (basic layout but open 7 days)

Hilton Park north side (good layout, pretty tough, scenic despite being next to motorway)

Minsterley Ranges (terrible set up but good for light practice if nearby)

I am REALLY keen to try West Midlands Shooting Ground in Hodnet, in fact, I am going to take a look to see if they are open today....

Hi Squash,

Thanks for the reply, I met with OllieOllie a few weeks back at Park Farm near Ombersley and we had a good morning out. We've planned a new year shoot (prob Griffin Lloyd) if you fancy a meet up.... I'm sure Ollie won't mind an extra gun and it's always nice to meet local shooters!

ATB
