Plenty to choose from on Guntrader-even a few PCP's to look at-don't bother with Turkish/Chinese Guns when the same money will buy you a decent,used,rifle-take your time and try as many as you can and don't forget that, under the distance selling regs., if you buy from a Dealer without seeing the gun then you have 14 days to return it without needing a reason-you may be liable for return postage but gun prices vary by location so buying from a shop hundreds of miles away can be beneficial.

I've never had a problem with the various Hatsans I've owned and used. I'm over the moon with the Galatian I recently bought and the Mod 75 is full power and accurate on a budget. SMK was ok but they definitely need fettling to get them to where they should be, they do make good project guns if you can get them for the right money.

Bruno22RF, give over with knocking the Hatsan rifles, they are now very well made, equal, in fact sometimes better made than the HWs you so blindly love. The last two HWs we have owned have needed stripping, they buzzed like a swarm of angry bees, the springs were not properly finished and they were gouging the insides of the gun.

That experience cost us over £300 per rifle then £80 for tuning kits to fix the problems. Admittedly when they were finished they had a slightly better trigger than a Hatsan 60, but not £200 worth of better (or £200 plus £80 for tuning kit)!

Compare that to a Hatsan 60S, £200 less out of the box for a start, iron sights so no scope needed another £40 saving (allowing for a 3-9x40 from Hawke), no buzzing, no gouging (the 99 is noted for the lack of the factory fix working still), walnut stock on the Hatsan as opposed to beech on the HW, the Hatsan has anti bear trap and auto safety, just like the HW and a nice 2 stage trigger as well.

Indeed the Hatsan 60S is better known as a Webley Stingray mk 2.

The 900 has the Striker trigger and it is nowhere near as good as the Quattro trigger on the 55 and 60 models. However it is lighter in weight and is a handy little carbine with a silencer that does work. With a Welsh Willy trigger and tuning kit the 900 can be made into an excellent little gun. For less than you need to spend on a tuning kit to sort an HW out as well!

Don't get me wrong, HW rifles were very well made, not the use of the word were! These days unfortunately accountants run the factory not engineers and you see increasingly poor finish as a result. I will not buy another new HW rifle.

Tom where in the country are you? Browns of Sheffield and Country Way in Kent both sell the 900 for under £70.

If you don't like it, someone will buy it off you for at least £50, so you only lose £20. Buy an HW 95k, they are £295, you will lose £95 of that when you walk out the gun shop with it. So horses for courses, if you are starting out the Hatsan is the better bet if testing the water!

Wrong Mr Mole-my love affair with HW ended about 5 years ago when I bought a 95 and found it somewhat lacking in finesse-did the job but did not have the quality or accuracy of my previous guns from the same stable (80 & 77) finally decided against the Marque in the near future when my mates 100 sprang a leak and, despite several trips to Hull and back, still leaks to this day. My loyalty, if any, is really with AA but if you are happy to use a cheap Turkish gun then be my guest-however when you can buy a TX or even a PCP within the OP's budget why would you??

I was wondering witch of the two guns is better or any others within the £250 mark.

Tom

I have owned a remington express, at the moment i have a hatsan breaker in 22,and a 99s in 177,if you are thinking of buying new then the hw 99s will be the best of the bunch, the express are well made, the only down side is the trigger, its far to heavy in my opinion,i had the hatsan out today, and was getting respectable groups at 35 plus yards,as witnessed by my mate krugarandsmith, the hw 99s is in a class of its own,far better build,a trigger to die for,if you look after it will last a life time,i found superdomes perform well in all three guns,as has been said if you can buy something second hand dont be put off, ther are plenty of bargains out there.

Yes the HW99S is full power. I bought one for my Dad this spring to deal with his squirrel issues and after a tin of pellets it was almost too close to the limit.

Tom - if you are going to spend 220 quid on a HW99S (good little gun) and then have a basic stage one tune you will be spending enough dosh to almost buy the best springer on the market - The walther LGU, or for an extra few pints worth of cash the LGV !! They are better out of the box than either the class leading HW97 OR TX200.

Your tuned HW99S will be no match for the Walther and you will have spent about the same.

I can vouch for the Hatsan 900x. For the money it's not a million miles away from a HW99S, but you do need to factor in a trigger fettle if you want it to show its true colours.

Put it this way you are a new to the sport person, what do you buy? A gun that is secondhand and liable to have been in the hands of several "tuners" whose results can be fishy or a new out of the box gun with warranty?

Remember too that the Hatsan 55 and 60 are available for double the price bearing the Webley moniker if it helps make you feel any better.

Mmmmmmmm :hmm: Must have bought more than 50 Air Rifles in my time Mole but struggling to recall a single one that had suffered at the hands of "tuners"-yet by your reckoning I must have done? Last comment-if you have £10k to spend on a car do you buy a 1.3 ltr Proton or a 5 year old Mercedes 320 amg?

Did not think Proton were still in business. I would be tempted for the new car with warranty over something that more than likely has been driven by a complete moron and trashed (like the AMG). You have been lucky in your purchases, not everybody is.

The forums are full of woes of people who have bought what was supposed to be a good gun only to find later on they bought a heap of tat that has been messed around with and is at best requiring new spring, seals, lubrication etc or at worst down right illegal (as happened to me recently from an auction that is supposed to be run by professionals).

who and were are these tuners please.

For a start there is AGT (Airgun Tuning) in Lincolnshire, he supplies and installs Vortek kits that work superbly in HW rifles (speaking from past experience),

http://www.agrtuning.co.uk/

You have Welsh Willy in Cardiff, who is a very good bloke just can talk for hours! He supplies his own WW kits and also tunes guns using his own kits.

http://woodfield-gcp.co.uk/

In Cornwall you have Tinbum who supplies his own kits and will tune if asked nicely!

http://www.airrifletuning.com/

In Essex you have T R Robb.

http://www.trrobb.com/

His tuning kits for CO2 rifles are pricy but really do work, he also does spring tuning as well.

There is also Vmach, legendary suppliers and fitters...

http://www.air-rifle-tuning.com/v-mach/Home.html

Redbeck Air Rifles also tune guns.

That enough to keep you going?
