First time flight line shooting

Been out on my farm yesterday morning looking to decoy some pigeons over fresh barley drillings.

I had a look and a walk around for couple of hours, identifying 3 flight lines, with the strongest one going over the middle of the farm.

After setting up couple of rope bangers on the other fields to avoid pigeons feeding there, i set up at about 10 AM under a big oak tree , just under the flight line , with 12 shells and 2 dead pigeons on the magnet, hoping to catch attention and draw them into the pattern.

Action started soon, the birds didn't decoyed as expected, they were flying above me but at a shootable distance. As i could shoot the field behind me, i could intercept the birds coming from both directions, and i had some great shots, i never imagined shooting a flight line could be so rewarding. All birds were stuffed with acorn so much , as on impact with the ground the pigeon crops were bursting.

Picked up 40 woodpigeons, 18 ferals and a crow.

Sounds like you had a good do.Can't beat flightlining for the quality of shooting, just don't count the empties!Good bag.

Thanks! Luckily i don't need to count the empties, i had a gun pod fitted on my Beretta , it does it all for me. :)

I had shot 88 cartridges, i don't know if this is good or bad ratio, but i was chuffed with the result .

88 carts for 40 pigeons,18 ferals,and a crow that's a terrible ratio I would`ve shot 200 plus carts :whistling:

Only had it happen for me once, in all these years. Great when it did, windy so the sound of shots were lost. They were coming downwind at one H of a speed over a long hedge about 60 feet up. If you could guess which bit of the hedge they were over next you could have some great snap shooting. However, if you stood a bit back from the hedge to get a better view, they would see you and you had NO chance.

Great sport, worst kill/shot ratio ever, but who cares???
