S410 barrel coating of some sorts?

Hi All, i picked up a very cheap S410 carbine a while back and it has suited me just fine but now looking to move it on.

I started to tidy it up but a previous owner has had some kind of coating put on it, hard to describe but I have added some pictures, it is a coating rather than corrosion and you can see parts that have worn or where the coating stops (no coating on the fill cap).

Has anyone seen this before, any ideas what it is?

What should I do with it?

crickey , that is a shame, it looks like some sort of enamel coating/powder coating, the dust filler cap is alloy on mine and not plastic and screws on, don't know what the modern ones are made of though,

you will probably find more problems if you remove this coating because the Air Arms blueing is certainly not the best in the world that's for sure, it has obviously been coated to hide the fact that it has started to corrode, judging by the finish on the coating I would guess its some sort of enamel spray coating but I could not be sure without seeing it first hand,

my view is that you should sell the rifle to me for £50 as it will save you all that hard work :lol:

heres my one I just purchased for a very low price, its been sat in a cabinet for the last 3 years and not been used

Evo, it is a shame but not quite a £50 shame!

You can see on the end if the barrel where it has worn off and is definitely a coating, not sure I fancy finding a way to remove it all tbh.

Is yours left handed, I am just changing mine to right hand, again I picked up a brand new stock extremely cheap to do it!

The first thing I'd try is to put petrol on a soft rag and hold it against the paint, then rub it off (hopefully).

As said, air arms do tend to rust easily so you may find the bluing isn't great underneath.

Good luck, hope it goes well - it'll still make a fine rifle no matter what it looks like.

What should I do with it? hello, that would seem a lot of work and you might find not easy to take that coating off, so i would leave it on tube and back barrel, try and get off by fill cap, then tidy up and try a sell for what you paid, and at least you had some shooting with it. ps hope you keeping ok :good:

Not really but price dependent on condition. Im after a pcp (always been part of the springer master race :D ) and im not fussed about a project if the money is right.

From the the picture it looks more like corrosion than a finish though lol

It does look different in the flesh than in the pics, you can see o. The end of the barrel near the mod where it has worn away and again if you remove the stock so def. Is a coating of some type, u just put a brand new stock on, and next will convert bolt etc to right hand.
