Well today I've taken the amarok back to vw after only a week of owning it was just not up to the job I got stuck with an empty trailer twice on the same job!

With the digger on the trailer just hard work on main roads

Don't get me wrong if it was just motorways it's nice car sorry I mean truck

I went straight round the ford dealers and test drove a ranger 3.2 auto seams good even going to let me have a demo one so I can try with trailer !!

My pal has the Izuzu D-Max he loves it! As they have always been a truck or lorry company, he is always raving about the towing ability as they have a steep hill down to the farm he can confirm they have proper brakes!

He has got the Huntsman spec one with gun draw and dog box in the back. Think I will be looking for one in the spring.

I am on my 2nd Dmax following a Rodeo Denver. They have all been autos, great work horses. Great pullers. This one is rated to pull 3.5 tonnes. Does 36 to the gallon and the manual ones are even better. Also very good off road and the grunt in low box is unbelievable.

Towing a digger behind an Amarok - youd be well over loaded, surely!?

The all new L200 looks far better as the outgoing model - but i bet its still just as soft built... VW can claim all they want, but the Amarok is a lifestyle vehicle never meant to do real work.

Others may be nicer, but the Isuzu and Ford are only pickups worth looking at for towing - they are the only ones which tow 3.5 tonnes (3.495 for the Ford).
