I am more interested on people's theories as to whether the rain (not light drizzly stuff, I mean proper full on) effects bird movement. Or do you find that they just find a sheltered area and stay put? If it is chucking down and not particularly windy do you bother to go out? Cheers. anser2 Posted November 14, 2015 Report Share Posted November 14, 2015 (edited) While heavy rain will not usually stop me going fowling I do tend to avoid wet days. I go fowling to emjoy my self and I find no enjoyment siting in the cold and wet with rain dribbling down my neck. Having said that some of my best days have come on very wet flights. The low cloud base that comes with rain helps keep geese low and often on wild wet nights duck will flight early while the light is still good. But for me its a question of which is more enjoyable a couple of duck on a clear , dry flight when you can take in the atmosphere of the marsh or a good bag in heavy rain when your vision is restricted by poor conditions as you sit huddled up trying to keep as dry as possable. That reminds me of the Ogri cartoon (in the back of Bike magazine for years) about going out for a ride on the motorbike in the howling weather. marsh man Posted November 14, 2015 Report Share Posted November 14, 2015 Up until a couple of years ago no amount of rain would have stopped me from going, but like anser2 said he now goes for the enjoyment , and so do I and I no longer enjoy shooting in the rain , heavy rain that is , the lighter stuff don't bother me. If it rain while I am out well so be it and I will stick it out but if it is raining hard while I am looking out of the window I will give it a miss until the next day , one advantage of having time on your hands . One particular morning when the rain hail and wind was clattering the windows , my then young wife rolled over, and said "you must be mad ". My reply was " it's the call of the wild ".
