i shot knee high rape on friday which is a first for me with no dog, my mate convinced me his dog would find them at the end of the day.i decided to give it a go, i had no decoys high enough so i just layed a few shells on top of the rape that the wind kept blowing off. i took the rotary with me for the first time this year prefering to use the turbo as the rotary kept scareing them away, i set the rotary up with 2 dead birds 10 yds to my left and 10yds out and kept the turbo in the bag.the first bird came and got half way across the field stopped turned round and went back the way he had come, so much for the rotary, a few miniutes later another 4 came and to my surprise tried to land on the rotary and for the next 1 1/2 hours every bird that came did the same, i shot 20 should have shot a lot more, i had given up on the rotary but it just goes to show you can never tell how they are going to react. i had marked the birds fairly well and the dog found them all which was another surprise if you knew my mates dog.

The rotary is always worth a try, sometimes its definitely a "magnet", other times it can be an excellent bird scarer.

I find the same goes for electronic flappers.

There are some large flocks in our area at the moment, mostly on the cereal stubbles that have been left, but they are very spooky and not coming to any decoys very easily.

Most of my shooting is flight lines and short sessions moving round the stubbles.

"Knee high rape" just shows how things differ around the country.

I have been able to get some new land with rape fields, as most of my regular farmers are not growing it this year and its all 6" tall at the most.
