My 15 year old daughter wants to start shooting with me which is fab, I was thinking getting a 28 gauge for her to use as she is she is a tiny little thing and I think a 20 will be too much for her, I have seen a couple of yildiz shotguns which are a good price but want to now if anyone has one and what they are like or can anybody make a recommendation . Thanks chaps.

I recently got a Miroku multi choke 28 bore, bit of an impulse buy! Cracking lightweight gun, surprise a few mates at the clay ground with it (and took a few quid of them haha)

LOP is a little short but not silly for me, usually like 14 3/4", think it's 14 1/4"

A mates son had used it, 16 gram load is enough to break em no probs. I used it on pigeons and put either 21 or 25 gram load thru it. If your anywhere near Ipswich in Suffolk your welcome to try it.

My wife is short and quite slight of build (5'2" tall, 8.5 stone), and uses a 20 bore O/U without any problems (Beretta SP1 with 3/4 inch off the stock)

The problem with a 28 is the cost (and availability) of cartridges. If she starts to shoot a fair bit then a 28 is going to be horribly expensive to feed, whereas light-load cartridges for a 20 are only slightly more expensive than for a 12.

The Yildiz is a lovely gun, great for youngsters, and hold there price well.

They very often come with very nice wood.

+1 - mine's got a very nice piece of Turkish walnut on it. Light, easy to swing / carry and 21g / #6 does the job on anything I point it at. Lighter loads for clays are also fine - 16g of #7 as the poster above said.

Depends what you do. If you're only after clay-busting then I can't argue with that. On the other hand, if you're both really going "through" clays to teach her and on into game / pigeon shooting then the cost difference is negligible. I use Eleys in both my 28 (VIP) and my 12 (Hi Flyer) and I think they're both about £78 per slab.

The Yildiz 28bore junior model would be a good gun if she is small or light framed, they come with a shorter stock and 26" barrels.

Is she is a bit bigger a Yildiz 20 bore with the stock cut down would be good as she grows the cut off peice could be put back on.

As far as I am aware the Yildiz 20 and 28 bore are built on the same action and barrel set, so maybe 1/4 pound in it at most between calibers.

I would go for the 20 but stick to light loading of 21g of No7 or No7 1/2. in fibre clay loads would be a good all round cartridge.

Only the 410 is built on a lighter action but only saves just over 1/2lb.

have u ever handled one sp they are so well balanced I use mine with 23g load but you can go as low as 16g load, and I do have 3 12g and 2 20g and the yildiz 28g,so I am able to compare all of them ,and I shoot them all on a regular basis, not weighed the 28 but am sure its only about 5 3/4 pound.

I have a Yildiz 28 bore and keep toying with selling it,then take out on clays or game and fall in love with it again. Great guns for not a lot of money.

Told my wife I was going to sell it and she told me not to as she likes it and can handle it better than the 12 bore ads I cut down for her.
