pigeon controller
We set out on Friday at 08.00 in search of our quarry full of enthusiasm knowing we were justly intitled to them, we hope. We picked up a strong flightline to some rape but this is a game shoot and we can not shoot it . As we scanned the field the Farmer came past and stopped to pass the time of day. as we were chatting the field erupted with about three hundred birds lifting of the rape. We were aware that they would be shooting the next day so we asked if we could shoot the roost as they would be spooking the birds all day with the various drives . The Farmer said yes and Monday you can shoot this rape , Result!!! So headed off to find some other birds . We checked two other farms with rape but no real amount of birds on them , so we continued to search . Now most of our rape is knee high and no self respecting pigeon is going to land in this and get soaking wet in the process , so we were looking for some low rape . Twenty miles later we drove passed a field of low rape and the birds were down, no birds were joining but it had approx eighty birds down under the trees, so a phone call later we were setting up , ten on cradles and two on the magnet all real birds. It was now 12.00 and a few birds returned to the decoys then the rain started and the wind became stronger. We shot till 15.00 and packed up the rain had eased so we took advantage of the lull and we picked up fortyfive pigeons. Saturday was a 08.00 start also and we drove out the the field we shot the day before to find a hundred plus birds down and again they were under the trees , so were they eating the rape or picking up acorns?? We decided to set up under the trees they were feeding under and shot for about ninety minutes and it just stopped as we could see the birds leaving us and flighting down the valley to another rape field in the distance , so we packed up and drove to the other field and set up again . Now the wind and rain was forcing the birds to follow the valley straight to our pattern and again it stopped at 14.00 so we packed up and headed to the roost to finish the day and shot till 15.30 with some memorable shots. We were soaking wet so no photograph as we just wanted to get home and warm and dry. We finished the day with one hundred and fourteen pigeons . After I had laid the birds out in the garage I took a photograph. Looking forward to Monday but it looks like it will be wet again.

dead eye alan
Another pneumonia inducing effort for the kings of perseverance. By the way your garage is very untidy. Considering the usual presentation i'm very disappointed with today's picture, but the result probably justifies state of the garage. good luck for Monday. The normal photo is taken before the birds are stuffed into a bag and carted across a field to the Disco . The presentation is the one the game dealer get as he arrives. The garage may look untidy but it's crammed full of useful bits???
