Ranges in Teesside

There are a number of ranges used for target shooting by club members in and around Teesside. Are you a member of or have you applied to join a club? If you are only doing or wanting to do target shooting on approved ranges then you must be a member of an Home office approve club. Most clubs in the Teesside area arrange shooting days at MOD Catterick ranges. eg Teesside Rifle and Pistol Club, Bishop Auckland Gun club. Bob Dunkleys Tall Trees Gunclub at Woodview Farm near Elwick has an indoor range but it is almost exclusively for Long Barrelled revolvers etc. He would however be able to advise as indeed would any RFD.

As a new holder you will almost certainly require mentoring and signing off as competent etc by the club officials. Even if you have cleared land to shoot on this condition may be applied to a new holder.

If you are who I think you are call in for a chat or pm me?

Hi All,

I'm after some advice ,i have just applied for my FAC and was wondering what ranges do people use in and around teesside. Any advice would be great.

Thanks M

Have you applied for an FAC because you have a need to use firearms on a permission/land ?. Or are you looking at wanting to use your firearms for a spot of range shooting as well . A little more detail is required to give you a more accurate answer. If you want to join a club to aquire your FAC you will need to do a 6 month probationary period and be mentored by a suitably qualified Club official. On completion of your probationary period and providing you have satisfied your club that you are competent you will be signed off and be in the position to apply for your FAC.

If you are initially applying for your FAC for sporting purposes you may be required to have a mentor but this is certainly not always the case and will be judged on an individual basis and circumstances.

Remember also that if your certificate is granted for sporting purposes you will have a condition for expanding ammunition. You will not be able to use expanding ammuntion on an MOD range or any indoor range.

Katzenjammer has covered the clubs available within the Teeside area. Clubs from Durham upwards tend to use Ponteland and Otterburn. Sadly the MOD range at Whitburn has now gone and is currently an ongoing new housing development. It used to be a great Range inbetween Catterick and Ponteland,

Pat
