car insurance for new/young driver

Just make sure you don't do what we did and take out a kicker plan where they give you 12 months NCB after 10 months. We found out it is not transferable between insurance companies so my lad effectively lost his first years no claims. luckily he also runs a 1970 Beetle as a weekend toy so racked up a year on that also.

Well done that lad :good: Now about insurance! Many moons ago I started off with a MK1 Fiesta. Fully comp first year was £270, kinda funny really as its what i am still paying now  I did for one year buy a kit car, fully comp £80. Apparently classic car ins is or WAS cheaper too. I have heard they were closing the loophole, as young drivers were using it as a way to gain a few years NCB using a battered nova or mk2 fiesta. But may be worth looking into. I don't know I moped insurance NCB can be transferred to a car policy? Moped insurance is cheaper to build up a few years of road use! Just a thought! ATB

no he failed :unhappy: but retest on 11th feb, stalled on hill when dog ran out on stretchy lead, was in 3rd gear but should have been in 2nd going up hill but he'll learn :good:

Seems rather harsh in my opinion. I stalled on my 3 point turn during my test and still passed, but pleased to hear he has now passed.

My nephew just recently wrote off his second vehicle in the space of 3 years. He is 21. Insurers paid out immediately and I have no idea what his premium is but I do know he got it reduced significantly by adding both his parents as named drivers and me also.

It's a real odd one as my lad (18) reduced insurance on one of his cars by £180 by taking myself and the wife off. Very odd

Try CLA insurance, my son had his 1.0l VW Polo with them think fully comp was about £900 when he passed his test and had dropped to about £700 when he was 19

just rang cla for insurance quote and was told that i would need to be a member of cla at a minimum cost of £200 to become a member?
