bostonmick Posted January 31, 2016 Report Share Posted January 31, 2016 I have a connect van.cant say anything bad about it.been very reliable only ever needed a cv joint rubber boot.i know many local tradesmen that use them some are around ten years old and got more miles on than a space shuttle and they seem to have no problem.of course you will as with all makes get an odd one that can be problematic. Did nothing very well, nothing particularly badly, rubbish build quality, incredibly uncomfortable, ate front tyres for a pastime, thirsty, service parts and spares stupid expensive from Ford Dealers (even taking into account a decent discount). Wilts#Dave Posted January 31, 2016 Report Share Posted January 31, 2016 Had mine 6 years from 3 years old....sold it with 120k on the clock and apart from the odd service and tyres didn't spend a penny on it! Never failed to start and apart from being a tad sluggish easily the best van I've owned, very reliable motoring in my opinion. Hector Vector Posted January 31, 2016 Report Share Posted January 31, 2016 I didn't say I had another van of any description. Just the Connect and that was enough to put me off Ford for life. As for the build quality: Rear axle anti roll bar brackets fracturing (OK more design failing than build quality). They are welded to the axle tube and fail on the welds. Ford actually supply the brackets as service parts - that should tell you something. Around 20K miles per set of front tyres - awful. Radio/CD packed up. Both front door and side door aperture seals fell off. They're stuck on so virtually impossible to get back on correctly. Factory fitted roof bars let water in just about everywhere they were bolted through the roof. Water leaks around the windscreen (original, never replaced). The strap that holds the fuel tank was also the subject of an action by Ford - they fit another part to reinforce the original as it can fail (rusts as I recall). Maybe nothing to do with build quality but 35mpg from the gutless slug really hissed me off as well. I drive very carefully by the way. This wasn't a dog of a vehicle either. It came from Ford Direct (via one further owner) having had very light use and with well under 20000 miles on it and full service history.
