BSA R10 question and a good visit to the atherton range

Ey up pigeonwatchers.

I had a very enjoyable afternoon down at atherton indoor range today. Flippin 'eck my little .177lightning was a bit out of place with benches full of PCP's. Now the chap next to me was shooting a very nice looking R10mk2 and after chatting for a while he confirmed the rifle was shooting well and so far so good. I remember when the MK1 was first brought out it was beset with all sorts of reliability problems? So how many of you still have R10's and are they now behaving as i have always liked this model.

I spent a couple of hours on the downstairs range before venturing upstairs. To have a play on the 75yard range. I had a whale of a time plotting trajectory on those spinners out to the 65 yard mark when i ran out time to get the adjustment sorted for those on the back wall.so they will have to wait until next time.

Does anyone else go to atherton off here?

GSAW , with regards the BSA r10, the mk1 was totally and utterly full of problems, not all by the way but a large majority, the BSA mk2 has had these problems resolved and the one I owned was superb,

it was sinfully accurate and I have to say I was gutted to let it go as I sold it to buy a new wolverine b, would I own another mk2 ? without a doubt the answer is yes, they are superb rifles now and it can be improved even further by giving it to mr Bowkett and having it blueprinted. mine was straight out the box and was honestly faultless , it also accounted for a lot of bunnies , I found the h&N ftt,s the most consistent pellet ,

with regards Atherton I,m really looking forward to setting my FT rifle up there and cant wait to pay the place a visit, it certainly sounds a cracking place and with the 75yrd range is perfect for setting up my new scope

blueprinting by john bowket , he makes a few modifications to the rifle and basically tunes it so as it shoots super smooth, hes the best in the business where BSA,s are concerned, he fully services it also ,

john was the one who designed the regulator for it and knows what makes the rifle tick,

it shoots superb straight out of the box and doesn,t really need a bowkett tune, but it certainly improves the fps over a full charge that's for sure thus making the rifle more consistently accurate,

have to say BSA got it right with the mk2, its one of the best looking rifles on the market and has a performance to match

I've been thinking about getting one funnily enough, I didn't like the look of its predecessors but I quite like the mk2.

I bought a rapid 7 in .22 recently, turned out some moron had been at it and I've spent a small fortune getting it to a reasonable standard. It's now come to the point where I don't like the damned thing because of it. I tried to buy another to replace it, in .177 but the guy let me down - that's the third time someone with a rapid has let me down and I give up.

Quite fancy getting shut of the r7 and buying a bsa instead so reading this with interest, thanks

I used to go to atherton and really liked it until I had a bit of a run in with a regular member there whos manners were apauling. Also the 75 yard range is spinners to 75yards but you can only put paper out to circa 30yards, a shame really as it would be great to be able to put targets out to 73yards to plot trajectory with. It will be a while before I return, a shame as otherwise I enjoyed it.

I have one and it is the dogs, very accurate out the box. I use it mainly for the rats in the barns and have had a lot of success with it.

blunderbust,, that is one seriously good looking stock mate,,,

atb Evo

Yes Evo, it is one of those specials that come up now and again, I think it is No 043 0f 100.

+1

Only thing with the FAC variant is the barrel is rather long

TD it was shooting yours at the PW week end a couple of years ago that steered me towards the R10.

Don't the Rapid is simple and a good rifle.

The BSA is also a good rifle but complicated as hell, hence it breaks down more often and expensively!
