We lost a police dog very suddenly after a training session, we found out later from a PM that it was a twisted gut. In my very humble opinion I would get the vet to have a look see. Obviously it's too late but I would have had a PM done just to see if it was a genetic condition or some kind of toxin/poison that could affect my other dogs ect. I'm a vet myself and maybe have a different mind set but I can also appreciate you wanting to have the dog buried rather than further investigations.
