southwest1984
Hi, When I bought my first gun, I also picked up a GMK alloy rod cleaning kit. I try and be pretty careful when using it, but occasionally when the rod is going down the barrel I catch the side of the the barrel with the rod. I'm just worried that being alloy I may Mark the barrel. Should this be fine or am I better off getting some wooden rods?

foosa
I've used he same type of rod for years, never any problems. Obviously try and be careful. as you can but don't worry if you catch the barrel with the rod

figgy
I go at it also when cleaning and get wood shaving off some of my rods and have snapped them in the past when using a jag and to much patch material. So bought a coated metal .30 cal rod with an adapter for fixing shotgun brushes and mops etc. I don't envisage this causing any damage. I did use a Napier mega mop with a jag also screwed into it with a patch and cleaning fluid until I snapped it. If your worried make a guide out of wood or plastic to fit the chamber so you can't contact the metal, this is what I'm going to do, until I bust it. The bore guides are used by people cleaning rifles so they don't damage the chamber edge. Edited February 6, 2016 by figgy
