Has anyone ever heard of a person who has been granted a shotgun certificate by his local Police force and who has been diagnosed with a weak heart.and has to take tablets? I thought we all had to be fit and sane

to have one? Although I know that the Duke of Edinbrough has had problems..but he is a Royal so trustworthy/etc and at the top of the shooting elete tree..But I have now met a guy that has NO RESTRICTIONS ..He has a normal certificate like me (5yrs)??Anyone can you have a certificate with a dodgie Heart??? :hmm::hmm: ?

I would presume that the health part is only relevent as regards mental illnesses or terminal diseases. ie conditions that might result in the shooter hurting himself or others. Don`t really see why a weak heart would stop anyone being issued an SGC. One of the guys I occasionally shoot with has angina and he has no problems.

well I thought we had to be fit and when I say sane I use that as saying not mental problems..but what if he collapses? would it be out in the field..he might acidentaly kill someone in a group for example...I DO AGREE that there would be

NO PROBlem as his doctor would have agreed at the police check as to his fitness..BUT I also hear that the Blind school here recently were treated to a few shots in the parkland...?? How the shooting world has changed these last few years

.......or have I fell asleep( indeed I might not be fit to own a certificate myself....(asleep for 40yrs) Ha! Ha!...well thanx for the info and enlightenment...

the chances of him collapsing and accidentley shooting someone in the field is no greater than a person stumbling or tripping and accidentley shooting someone or being killed in the car on the way to the shoot or being struck by lightning in the field. theres plenty of people with poor health driving cars and a serious car accident can certainley cause many deathes. so i would be inclined to not worry bout it.

Ha! Ha!..at a STROKE...well thought that pun..

yes I see but it does seem strange..BUT I one day might be like Frank my shooting syndicate friend..and like those in not so good health I guess I'm too carefull and a little un-educated in what a man can do with heart problems...I look back and see Frank over the last 25 years of our shooting times and he has had the condition for 6yrs...I NEVER KNEW..Well you cant see it can you ..his heart is hidden ... so I thought it was good...MUST help him carry his gear next time we are out...without him thinking I'm helping...Mmmmm!

I can't understand how anyone would consider it 'strange'. A mate of mine has a heart condition and he's never mentioned it being an obstacle to his tickets. I suppose a lot depends on the severity but he still has his Class 1, which he needs for his work driving a loading bucket. I think he has more than is the required norm regarding medicals, paid for by his employer.

Brother in law has just had his driving license reinstated after going three years without incident following a pacemaker fitting. I also know people with epilepsy who hold driving licenses.

As long as the treatment controls the ailment I can't see a problem.

my dads had his cert renewed, and he has terminal cancer, only thing the officer wanted was to have the keys split up, so my mum has the top lock and my dad has the bottom lock key, so she can provide the key to him when he wants to go shooting, (but my mum doesn't have access to the gun) which he even admitted won't stop someone who wanted to end it as he still has a cert and could go buy a other gun if he so wished

its all about ones mental state in these situations

I presume the thread is a complete wind up. I find it hard to credit that someone could be so dumb.

The quote about the Duke of Edinburgh sums it up - he presumably could be nearly dead, but fit to have an SGC, unlike we commoners.

he is a Royal so trustworthy/etc and at the top of the shooting elete tree..

Absolute drivel.

Is that Frank, who you have just met, but known for 25 years?

No! Leave it to the experts. The chances are that regular exercise is part of his treatment.

More than half of the over 50s and more than three quarters of the over 60s in the UK are taking meds for conditions related to their cardiovascular system. Most are essentially being kept upright by drugs.

There are a hell of lot of SGC holders out there in the over 50 age bracket...

I thought actual royals didn't need cents anyway? Queen certainly doesn't............ Crown servant exemption that applies to plod applies to royal household staff, imagine them coming to check the cabinet at buck house lol.....

Just to point out that the exemption does not apply to "private" firearms.
