New permission

Today on the way home from work I decided to go past a large farm in Essex I have seen lots of pigeons on over the last few years but have always avoided knocking on his door as I was hold that he was a mountain of a man and didn't like strangers !!

I drove up the unmade track and was chased most of the way by 3 very angry looking German shepards .. I bravely got out the car walked up to the front door as the dogs were now no where to be seen and it was opened by a big old fella who was on the phone .... He said to wait outside and not to upset the dogs ... They had caught up with me by now and we're looking at me but no barking .... Just staring ...

The front door opened again and was asked what the xxxx I wanted ... I jokingly said new pants As the dogs now had moved closer ... He laughed !!!! I asked about the shooting ... He asked about my experience and what I wanted to shoot .... So after 20 mins of chatting he has given me permission to shoot on his 4 fields and I'm meeting him there tommorow at 3 pm to roost shoot a wood at the back of a rape feild he has .....

I thought I post this for 2 reasons .... 1) if you want new shooting you have to ask ... You will get knock backs but if you approach the farmers in a polite manner you will get land to shoot and 2) if I don't post again in the future I've probably been murdered and buried in a feild in Essex lol ......

Hahaha good thinking, I like your sense of humour :)

Top tip: Clench a water balloon full of Deep Heat between your butt cheeks. That way, if the worst happens at least you'll know he suffered too.

That was funny

Have you tried this before

Storsey did you get your new pants

Good evening gentleman .... You can take this post as confirmation of my safe return ....

We set up about 20 ft into the woods .... And waited for the pigeons to come in .... I did keep wondering to myself why I had a shot gun ... And he had a shovel and some lime .... Lol ...

Anyway to cut a long story short we had 11 only but it was good to get the first session under my belt at a new permission and the farmer seemed genuinely happy I wasn't a muppet ( thank The Lord my shooting was on form ) anyway I'm out again on a rape feild Tuesday weather permitting and I will post how I get on.

As for the clenched cheeks I think I'm pretty safe .... He said I wasn't his type ... Apparently he likes slim good looking blokes ..... See I always said being fat was good for you !!!!!!

Cheers fellas ...

Well done on the new permission and a good story.

I visited a farm many years ago (pigs with a some arable) and was met by a large Doberman, she walked up to me quietly and put my hand in her mouth, ever so gently, I couldn't even feel her teeth.

A dirty, dungaree clad old chap emerged from a building and turned out to be the Farmer.

I gave my brief speech and got a quick OK and then asked why his dog had my hand in her mouth, he said that she always did that.

I then asked if she had ever bitten anybody, he said that she had, but they usually deserved it.

He told her to let me go and she did and just strolled off.

I shot that farm for many years, before I moved well out of the area and the dog never bothered me again, all very strange.

I had a similar experience years later with another Doberman, when visiting an isolated wood yard to buy some logs.

Well done, great result.

We have some permissions that people have said the farmer is very abrupt and aggressive and how did we obtain permission.

If you don't ask you don't get, use some tact and if you see him and his arm is up the back end of a cow apologise and walk away and go back later . Most farmers like a chat as they do not meet a lot of people in the tractor , if you ever go to a farm sale or market they are all in groups having a chat. Persistence is a way forward DB had one farm and it took it him 18 months to get permission as the far was owned by two brothers with no family and they lived a life of isolation . Once he obtained permission he became there long lost son for many years till they passed away within two weeks. The farm was sold to a land investor and all put down to grass and no shooting.

Again well done for obtaining a new permission. While your shooting with the farmer ask him about his neighbours in conversation.

You can then nock on there doors if they have a problem and explain you shoot on Mr X and the birds are now on his crops is it possible to shoot , bingo ,another permission.
