Mid 30s and thats no exageration, in typical A road driving 50-60 MPH. Similar on Motorways but obviously incline and wind sensitive up to a point. You could probably get below 30 but you would have to be pressing on at every opotunity to get much below that, tow great as well you cant beat Toyotas.

Specsavers :hmm:

OH ye of little faith. :/ Wont see anything as good for 10K no mater what rose tinted glasses you wear, Its no secret dont take my word alone for it just look them up online.

Hyluxes have not allways been this good the old 2LT turbo 2.4s strugled to do 19 if they were working but not the D-4Ds in 2.5 litre, the 3.0s are not that bad either but not as good as the 2.5.

If you are concerned about getting high mpg you don't want a pick up.

Absolutely agree, even if people are squeezing 32 out doing 45mph everywhere they go it's all lost as soon as you go off road so what's the point in worrying.

Fuel is as cheap as it's been for a long time but if you think it's expensive buy a Prius and take up golf!

Just so you know my 15 plate l200 does about 30 driven normally with kit in the back and passengers from time to time

When I took a 14 plate hilux for a test drive thE other day the trip computer said we were doing 32.9mpg, he said it should improve as all it had done for a while was shunt on and off the forecourt. I I was doing that many miles a year I would be looking at one of the new diesel estates doing mid to high 50mpg, also cheaper tyres etc

at the moment im driving a vectra diesel and getting around 50 mpg but used to have a terrano and have missed having a 4x4 ever since. Ive wanted a truck since before i could drive as my uncle had a mk1 hilux from new and it lasted him 26 years and when we went fishing when i was a kid i loved it. Id be ok with another 4x4 im just fed up with the vectra although in 55k its been bery reliable and never not started but i do look after my cars

I run a invincible and whilst I believe them to be the best and most reliable you will be lucky to average 30mpg and if you want to tow a trailer with any weight you could be down to 20.i also run a defender and when towing I dare not carry the amount of cash needed to keep fuel in the tank.i work my trucks and take the cost on the chin so to speak.when I am not in need of a trailer on I take a connect van.i have had people tell me they get 40+ from their 4x4 if that is what they are happy to believe I just let them get on with it.

The hilux's are well known to be the least economical. I do get 32 average with a mix of lamping and work commute that's with at tyres. A mate does get 36 -40 plus from a new l200 on road tyres but that is mostly a reasonable commute and unloaded. The new engine is meant to be a fair bit more economical despite putting out a reasonable amount more power

Now is not too bad a time to run a 4x4 fuel pree the next budget in any case, is as cheap as its been for a good wile.

MPG is of course a big factor esspecialy if you do a lot of miles, but pure fuel alone is only one part of the running costs. Reliability ease of servicing and the overall driving experience are a big factor too along with other aspects like depreciation and even general construction/ durability in use.

Test drive as many as you can L200s navarnas rangers try them all then report back what you think. Me i rate Toyotas for a SUV landcruisers in all the models even the colorados are good very good, and in the trucks the hilux is right up there too.

But its each to his own i supose.

Now is as good as it ever has been, pickups you get low tax compared to most 4x4's diesel is cheap, servicing intervals are going up to 20k on most and the newer ones are on 5 year 125k warranties. Really that makes them pretty cheap to run especially as they seem to handle high mileage pretty well Edited by al4x

If I was you and you really want a pick up go try a few if you fund one you particularly like then buy one.scratch the itch so to speak.however whatever you go with be prepared to at least double your current running costs.most are comfortable on long runs.obviously plenty of room on the back for anything you want to carry.they are fast although that also decreases the mpg.if you choose right and find you can't justify the increased cost then you won't lose much if anything on it.
