Cheap and easy torch/moderator glare fix

I mounted a torch on to my scope for "lamping" bunnies. It worked really well apart from glare caused by light reflecting off the moderator. A quick Google revealed this to be a common problem. One of the solutions is to move the torch back as far as possible. I did this and it got rid of most, but not all of the reflected light.

Another trick is to put a bit of tape on the lower half of the scope objective. This worked, but I couldn't see myself fiddling around with bits of tape in the darkness, so I took a knife to a spare rubber scope lens protector for a more robust solution.

It's not pretty, but it works very well!

How about trying heat shrink insulation. It is matte black, don't think it will reflect but I could be wrong. Available in various sizes from the likes of Maplin, RS, Farnell etc.

I have a piece on my HW100 mostly to protect the moderator from scratching but when I had a scope mounted torch fitted did not notice any glare.

Get a piece a little larger than the mod diameter, cut to length fit and use a heat gun to shrink to fit (or hold it over the hob turning as it shrinks if you don't have a heat gun).

Similar but slightly different aspect l suppose .. l get a glare regards my night vision screen. I've just fitted one of those honeycomb screens to the front of the scope. Not had a chance to test it yet. Though l have noticed little to nil reduction daytime function wise, so l guess l'll just leave it on and see if it reduces the night time reflective glare ..
