I would change the switch as a matter of course. Is the engine high mileage? Sounds like(assuming switch ok) it's when the oil reaches it's thinnest as it takes quite a while for it to warm through. If it's just general high mileage and a worn engine you really only have three options. (A) rebuild engine, (B) turn tickover up slightly , © use thicker oil in summer. (A) is obviously the proper way but we all know that's not going to be done until the engine gasps and wheezes it's last breath, everyone (most) would take the same course and make it last as long as possible. Me personally, being a lazy tight wad would go straight to (B) and © Unless of course you can persuade Ditchy to rebuild it for you at mates rates :good::lol:

I changed the filter. Sure it was 15/40 and it's literally on long journeys!! After about 1:30 driving is comes on at tick over then isn't seen again till the next long trip

It will be because it takes that long for the oil to get hot through, and at it's thinnest. Thinner oil = lower pressure especially on an engine with wear. There's lots of vehicles out there with that problem, just keep the oil light off by raising tick over slightly or using thicker oil. A bodge in a way I know, but you could get years more life out of it. How many miles has the engine done ?

Not major mileage for a 200 or 300 though. Did you put the original oil in or was it in when you bought the vehicle? I wouldn't worry about it to be honest. Check the oil pressure switch and change it soon as just in case, make sure the filter is a good brand (not Britpart whatever you do) and if still no change then work around it (tick over, grade of oil) then just carry on driving.

I had a 300 that had a leaky filter with two "motor factors" filters, bought a Fram and problem solved. Britpart I never use, they specialise in price over quality and that's not good.

I had a 200tdi & the light come on, i only put 30k on it in the time i had it. New pressure switch, thicker oil, bottom end rebuild, turned out that a bush at one end of the block moved in the block & blocks the oil way. Common thing on 200's by all accounts but then it did only cost me £15 of ebay

Sure this wasn't a cam bush moving? It has been known to happen,( particularly if the engine has got quite hot) but not common. Then again, it happens on other makes of engine as well so not a particular trait of the 200 / 300.

Bush moves in casting and effectively leaves a big hole for the oil to run out, thereby killing oil pressure. It's usually fatal I believe :unhappy:

That sounds about right. Did try the other options before pulling it out but was easier just to put a different engine in.
