Geolander Tyres

I am aware that at least several members have these tyres - certainly one has them on the same vehicle - X Trail - as me. Just had my MoT and an 'advisory' that these are suffering from deterioration although the tread - 5mm - remains good - in the form of 'crazing' on the shoulder area. Has anyone else suffered from this?

The tyres are approximately 30 months old, have done some 20,000 miles and the car is in daily use.

Side wall will have manufacturing date on it. Mine are noted as EAD2315 (23RD WEEK OF 2015) and show no signs of stress and doing 25k per year.

 

I swap my tyres at 3mm anyway as below loses wet and 4x4 grip.

As above, check the manufacturing date as some tyres sit around for years before being fitted.

Think you will have to replace them as it may effect your insurance if the tyres fail whilst driving.

Absolutely and looks like its maybe a common theme with them.

Jeep was MOTd last month and exactly the same on the ticket as an advisory.

Got the car back and have had a shufti. It looks to be superficial/cosmetic. When it stops raining I'll nip up to my local tyre chappie from whence they came and get him to have a look.

Sidewall and central tread perfect, superficial cracks limited to outer edges of tread only. No immediate problem.

could be a tracking problem if on the front or camber problem I would get a 4 wheel alignment done as I have had same problem, all sorted now

Veering off topic a little, how do you get on with them otherwise?

I have an xtrail currently on road tyres that were on when I bought it, but thinking of geolanders when they need replacing.

Quite pleased with them. Comfortable and not noisy on road. It's an X Trail so not mud pluggin' and they do all I ask - until a couple of weeks back when I went off the track into a well disguised quagmire which caught me out in less than the car's length. Cue friendly farmer! In general mud, the X Trail and these make oppo's Shogun and road tyres look pathetic.

Sounds good. I won't be needing any serious off road capability but would like something with a bit more sticking power on the odd muddy track, etc that I find myself driving down.
