bazzab
Hi all. I'm putting my ticket in tomorrow for WMR to be added. (Hopefully they will say yes...) So opinions who uses it, what on, distances, damage etc etc.... Many thanks Bazza.
kent
The ballistics are better looked up as they don't exaggerate on tell porkies It's the most lethal rimfire as regards terminals of that there is no question at all However it's always going to be way behind a small cf But you can have it in semi auto unless the eu firearms directive gets through ( still being debated)

Dekers
My main use is Fox and Canada goose. For some reason I don't really see my WMR as a rabbit rifle, although it has taken a few, I use .22lr and HMR far more on the rabbits. 30g Hornady V-Max is my current ammo of choice and works well, it also flies very close to a 17g HMR V-Max out to around 100 yards! Just the same, I still have 500+ Factory sealed CCI 40g Maxi Mag HP-V which my last WMR seemed to prefer, so if you find yours works well with these give me a shout! Ammo&Targets 012a.jpg Out of interest, what range do you zero at? And you say it flies very close to a 17gr vmax? In terms of trajectory? Cheers
Scully
I used 40 grn hollow points through my Ruger. It was a superb gun which gave more of a whump than a crack ( with ear protection of course ) in my opinion, and anything it hit stayed hit. Eight shot (? its been a while ) rotary magazine was a plus also. Well worth a look. Slick little rifle. I only sold mine as once I had the .22lr as well as CF the WMR never really got used. Dekers
Out of interest, what range do you zero at? And you say it flies very close to a 17gr vmax? In terms of trajectory? Cheers Mine has a 100 yard zero, but that's because it works for me, there is no guarantee you will want/need the same, if you are just sitting and ambushing foxes at 50 yards then a 50 yard zero may well make sense, zero distance can also be effected by ammo choice! And yes, trajectory is very similar to 17g HMR V-Max out to 100 yards, when using 30g WMR V-Max, but the HMR just has the edge.

kyska
I'm an avid fan of WMR, always have been, unlike others I do use it as a rabbit rifle, and for fox. Some have said accuracy is not too good.....but...I get consistent results, slightly larger groups than the HMR, but it's more consistent. I like that, and I like the extra 100ft/lb over the .

colin lad
Baz when we took mine for a plink we was doing so in intermittent winds i have since been and fired a few groups in still weather and now after a few hundred rounds down her am getting some pretty impressive groups it's not match accuracy but for hunting plenty good enough sub inch at 100 yards colin
bazzab
That's cracking mate. I was very impressed with what we did. As you say moderate winds and a spanking new rifle. It made the decision for me to get one bud. Malkiserow are you on glue.... lol..
kyska
can you get consistent head shots on rabbits out to say 150yds,what damage to head shot bunnies,i summise body shots are blown away I guess you could, but I don't shoot that far by choice for head shots. I've done a few paddock clearances and shot just kill them, and it does tend to have a bit more destructive end point than hmr. Head shots are similar to the hmr, just a bigger wound.
