nderfel
hi all, posted a while back in the wanted section but didn't really get any bites. I am after my first PCP for hunting. No real requirements other than it needs to be a full set up and be magazine fed not single shot. budget up to £500 if not a bit over for the perfect thing. I thought I'd take a punt and ask you fine people cheers Nick
Les*1066
Nick, you will need to take into account the fact that a filling cylinder and associated connectors etc can come to £200 or more, so you'll probably either need to up your budget, or look at buying a used setup - or a new PCP with a used cylinder etc. Hatsans and Gamos are possibly the cheapest pcp's available. Hatsans usually get decent write-ups. Have a look at Gunstar or Guntrader etc for used prices. BSA, Weihrauch, Air Arms, Falcon etc all make excellent pcp's. http://www.gunstar.co.uk/Air-Guns-for-sale https://www.guntrader.uk/Guns-For-Sale/
nderfel
cheers les. There are a fair few about, i was a bit late contacting someone about a S410 and another chap about a falcon (which looked amazing) will keep looking until the right thing comes up
figgy
I bought a good as new very lightly used S410f full set up for not that much more than your budget. If you can up it a bit you can get some cracking set ups.
nderfel
cheers figgy, got my eye on a bsa scorpion se set up that looks about right, either that or steal some of the wifes housekeeping and go for a HW 100 KT thats knocking about
figgy
Be sure to get a good HW100 as they have had some problems.
hoggysreels
I was toying with the idea of getting a HW 100 KT in .177 Was told by a "contented owner" he gets 4 full mags of constant shots (56) with a full fill .. thereafter poi drifts slightly. Sorpion offer slightly more of a shot count, l think? Neither are regulated but both have a reputation of being an accurate pcp. I do like the feel when shouldering the HW 100 KT (thumb hole version) plus HW is Walnut, BSA in all probability is Beech. Though l've yet to come across a more accurate pcp becauae of trunk selection of a specific variety of tree. One is bolt action, other side lever action, which isn't in tbe same league as the AA s510 lever mechanism. You pays your money, you takes your chance. Buy what you feel is right for "you" .. as a side possibility! .. if the Scorpion was available at a reasonable price, it maybe worth budgeting into the total cost an Airtec modification ... what you get back is an altogether different rifle. Regulated shot count, smoothness, air stripper incorporated into a full length carbon shroud etc ... worth a though .. either way, good luck with your final choice fella .. secretagentmole
you guys have put me off that now! i'd be buying distance and having them post so wouldn't be able to try it either.. Not a good idea unless you are certain that the person selling the gun is the illegitimate offspring of the Dalai Llama and Mother Theresa of Calcutta. You always want to see and handle the gun, make sure it works and is right. My problem with an HW100 was a brand new out of the box one with a stock made by James Howlett (well it sure seemed like it), it had to be sent back to Hull Cartridge for the stock to be changed, but I am happy with the gun now, it is a very accurate rifle with a good shot count. Look at the gun shops around you and see what they have on the shelf in there, some will deal in secondhand guns!
nderfel
cheers mole, i will do. i have purchased all my rim fires from on here actually and they have been fine but then again a PCP is a much more complictaed beast and I hadnt appreciated that as much

If you are uncertain about what you are buying then buying from an RFD is much safer!
hoggysreels
I have been toying with the idea of moving on my BSA Ultra Se Airtech .177 l honestly believe if l were to exchange for the HW 100 kt the "if any?"- advantages would be negligible. I'm keeping hold of the Ultra "just fitted a Panorama scope to it" .. will get more pleasure out of using it. When l do eventually move it on, l will layout the extra cash out and go, Air Arms Ultimate Sporter .177. And likely as not get a new one. Having such a consistant pcp as l have at present, l've really got to get something that up's the stakes so to speak .. well that's my most recent idea!
