Fancy a jeep of some kind, at the rate i am working on our last nut and bolt referb of our old Terrano i predict it will be december at the earliest before its on the road again, so looking at a jeep of some sort. we had a jeep xj 2.5 turbo a few years ago was a face lift xj limited was awesome thing off road and was a decent on road drive with 30 plus mpg ecconomy.

The grand cherokees look ok are they as good as the xjs off road, and the 2.8cdi engine is it mercedes or a biger version of the XJs vm turbo unit.

What are the liberty patriot style jeeps like and again what engine is in them.

I had a 2000 cherokee 4ltr auto and loved it but I did find that getting parts that fitted was a problem they are ok up to 1998/9 but later ones you can have problems stupid things like getting a new starter motor had to buy one from the US as they changed the electrical connectors. Having said that I am thinking about getting a KJ 2.8 diesel auto if I can find a good 2005 one as the road tax went up from £270 to £500 for a 2006 one same car madness.

I now have a 2.2 diesel nissan X-trail manual gearbox and it ticks most of the boxes very good in the mud but it just feels like an old persons car were as the Jeep is a proper 4x4 with high and low box etc.

Oh from what I have seen on the net the diesel engines are not Murc they are made in Italy and the 2.8 ones are said to be very god engines.

On my 3rd generation of Jeep Grand Cherokees and will probably go 4th in a year or two and pretty much faultless although a recall was performed which messed the 4l back to 4h but new software sorted that.

Not sure how sourcing parts is presumed to be a problem, and i bought a starter motor for mine from eBay as well as most other parts it has required.

Off road capabilities are superb with suitable boots, although i bellied mine on Friday and had to be pulled oot by the brothers Jeep but overall they are spot on.

Just don't crash one of the new ones...

This was a 7 month old Summit, and they stopped counting the damage at £28k. That was without checking engine, gearbox, chassis... A new headlamp unit is £1500 ex VAT, so they sell them cheap and then clobber you with replacement parts.

Shame, as it was an awesome bit of kit, though it did resemble Mater from "Cars" at this point!!!

The problem with getting parts is for the XJ 2000 and 2001 jeep made stupid little changes I got a new radiator from ebay as it was a lot cheeper than from jeep I was assured that it would fit a 2000 auto only to find that at the bottom of the of the radiator where the oil cooler pip fits for the auto box they changed the size of the push on nozzle the same thing with the starter wrong plug the garage got two new starter motors nether fitted so had to get one from the US in the end it worked out not so expensive from what I have been told on other forums they changed lots of things on the late XJs that is why I am looking for a KJ in the hope that getting parts will be better apart from the parts problem I am a big Jeep fan.

My XJ cherokee was a 1997 or 8 R reg, i really liked it off road and on. I only sold it because it was worth more than the Terrano which we still have.

The libertys or patriots, what are they like, and is the latter chrome grill jeep that resembles the libertys any different mechanicaly are they 2.8 vms

REason i mentioned the mercedes engines, is the chrysler grand voyager mini vans have the 2.5 mercedes, same as the vitto vans or at least similar.

I had a 2003 cherokee for about 5 years sold it about 3 years ago 2.8 absolutely brilliant truck bit thirsty and parts can be expensive

For some strange reason they go through door mirrors (motors burn out)

The transfer box to front axle shafts also go but over all they are great nice to drive don't wallow all over the road like a certain much loved over rated English 4×4

Had a 2.8 jeep Cherokee 2005 - back axle leaked all its oil on motor way and nearly siezed- not viable to repair but as still in period of used warranty got them to use it as a deposit against a new wrangler. 2 years of owner ship 17k miles and over 6 month in the garage, gear box rebuilt 3 times, took ages to get parts from America, and still poping out of gear at dangerous times, cross roads, on motor way etc. Eventually got my money back - to see it on their forecourt 2 days later , obviously not fixed and still dangerous.

Great fun car but I can't go back to them. My old 95 shogun is on 250k and still going strong.
