Had a call from Stuart a few days ago asking if i would go and have a look at a field that a farmer asked if he could sort a few rabbits.Had a look and there were a few about so we decided to have a night session last night. We wrapped up well as the forecast was mixed with rain and snow showers and it was going to be cold and windy.

Most of the rabbits were coming from a neighboring piece of land to graze on this field so we had to try and get rid of a few.

We set up a couple of hundred yards apart and the shooting was steady nearly all night. We had to shelter in the vans a couple of times during the night once for a snow shower and again for a heavy rain shower.

We left the rabbits where they fell and collected what rabbits we could when it got light this morning.

It was a pleasant suprise to find we had got more than we were expecting to when we counted up.

We picked up 87 rabbits of which 2 large rabbits had myxy so we slung those before the photo.

We had 49 good large rabbits and 36 small rabbits which should please the farmer.

We could have shot these just at the right time.We only shot two with myxy and if we had left it for a couple of weeks longer it might have spread and wiped out most of the rabbits anyway.

Do you think that mixy has carried on through the winter. It seems to die off at backend my way, and then re occur late summer.

I have no idea if myxy has carried on through the winter. What i have noticed is that i have been shooting some rabbits that have a lot of fleas on them for this time of year.Especially round and inside their ears and i suppose this is due to the mild winter and will help to spread myxy through them spreading among the rabbits.

we will have another go ian i think most of these rabbits have moved from lower pastures (flooding) i was on the same fields in January on the quad and the ones i saw i shot no way was there this many rabbits been doing this field 10 years never this many about

I think it could do with another all night session just to see if we have have made a dent in the numbers.Makes you wonder how many there are left there.
