storage, up or down?

For those of you who store your shotguns in an upright cabinet, do you stand them barrels up or down?

Down for me. There's no disadvantages to storing down where there is a risk from oil storing barrel up.

Stock down, barrels up, for me. I avoid oil stains to the woodwork by refraining from slathering the stuff about. That policy has worked well for me for the last 50-odd years.

 

That way I avoid knocking the muzzles on the cabinet, avoid damaging the chokes on the cabinet floor, and avoid debris from the floor entering the muzzles.

Both, I can get 5 guns in a 3 gun cabinet by having 3 barrels down and 2 barrels up.

Barrels up for me, I just don't over do the oil, just a wipe down with a oiled cloth works well for me.

Barrels up. Like above I go easy with the oild and make sure any excess is removed. Not had any problems yet

Barrels down - no sock or anything - just enough oil to keep them safe for a few months and they're good to go.

Smartass! I love the idea. Thats how I store 5 guns in a 2 guns 'broken down' cabinet too (horizontally)

Semi auto barel up over air rifles up over all other shotguns the barrels are down.

Barrels down for my o&u with the nice wood, for the reasons already stated. I don`t really mind for my guns with synthetic stocks.

Barrels down every time, base of cabinet built up to door lip height with a piece of ply, a whole folded news paper on top of the ply to protect the muzzles and absorb any excess oil.

Moderates off, bolts out, chokes out.

 

There is no disadvantage to storing this way, barrels up can cause problems

Up and down its the only way to shoehorn them all in.
