If you have a full car license you can have a scooter of up to 50cc, whether geared (ie a motorbike) or twist and go (ie a girls bike or pizza delivery bike) without needing a CBT or L plates.

If you wish to ride any 2 wheeled petrol or diesel fuelled motorbike over 50cc but up to 125cc with L plates displayed front and read (and maximum 12 bhp power) you will need to do a CBT which will last for 3 years before you need to take it again.

CBR indeed, bleeding Honda that is.....

You have to have moped on your licence first as its the main thing,as if you have never had a bike and you have had to send your licence to dvla for either points or change address, they will take it off your licence hence why I've wrote this.as its no good buying a moped then not been able to insure it if it's not on your licence then you need your cbt atb

Better off passing cbt and getting a proper Honda Wave 110i comuter bike. More comfortable and better to ride with larger diameter wheels, very good fuel economy 160 mpg according to Honda site so you would still get fantastic real world mpg.

Check you have category P on your license, that's the moped category, if you do, then you have a full moped license so you can ride a 50cc bike with no L plates , no need for a CBT as you passed your test before 2001, after that you had to do a CBT, but only once, it doesn't expire like it does if you're using to ride a bigger bike on L plates.

Hopefully that will be the link, otherwise copying and pasting it will get you to the page.

Edit: Come to think of it I have a feeling the DVLA changed the category, so if you've had your license a while without changing address or anything it'll be category P, but if it's newer it may be something different, rules still apply the same though, they've just renamed some categories.

Thanks for all the replys folks, I was thinkng it was just the 50cc and it seems this is correct, so I,m going to go with that to start with and see how I get on.....then I may decide to step up to the 125cc, as the 50cc are all restricted to 30mph now....everyone and there Granny is going to be speeding past me.....

There easy enough to de-restrict. Just do your cbt and get a 125, low tax, cheap insurance, depending what you get still good on fuel and wont stop on the slightest hill 😂

Another option if you have money to spend is the gilera fuoco or piaggeo MP3, if you get the LT version they can be ridden on a car license as they're classed as a trike, and they go up to 500 cc.

Some very recent car licences don't come with the trike category, but I think that was in the last few years, I have it and I passed a fair while after you.
