Lab has started fretting

Recommended Posts

Hi guys got a bit of a wierd situation going on at the moment my 6 year old lab bitch used to be good/fine when i would let her out in the garden but the last week she is fretting almost like she is panicked or spooked, scratching at the door, whimpering. But once she is in the house she is back to normal happy ect.

She has never had any pups either so im thinking it could possably be a phantom pregnancy and she is fretting just my thought. If this persists much longer she will be going the vets.

But at the momment im at a loss on possabilities to this wierd and random behaviour. Any input off you guys would be great.

Thanks in advance hatsan

Its not just something silly like an adder taken up residence at the bottom of the garden is it? Its the time of year for them.

If its only the garden where she does it go out there with her and see how she behaves if you are out there. Our old dog goes mad now if you shut the door, never used to, but happy as Larry as long as its even ever so slightly ajar, even a quarter of an inch. Then you can't get him in We think its age related basic insecurity, like a panic attack. He's frightened you might forget about him. If one of us is out there with him he doesn't care if the door is shut. He's not clingy then, he's down the bottom of the garden sniffing for foxes.

We did wonder if he had an encounter with one of the foxes, they are really not afraid of him at all. They run away when he barks at them but they are just being nice to and old dog.

My spaniel has been acting really weird the last couple of days. she suddenly jumps up and is looking around as if there is something going on. she was really clingy to the wife and kept trying to get up on her lap. but she isn't settled and wants to be off again. Normally when the Mrs takes her out in the orchards she is racing around quartering the way ahead but yesterday she kept tight to the Mrs and nearly had her over a time or two.The dog seemed really uneasy about something and I wondered if there was a flea or two in residence but cant see any evidence or signs that is the case. I thought about problem anal glands and if it is a case of the spring moult coming on. Failing that she is feeling an impending earthquake or something but then it is a looney spaniel I speak of.
