aga man
I am pleased to report the early stages of traing my young labador 'Bob' is going very well. I am following a book this time by Eric Begbie, and we are well into the basic training and he is coming along great. Early days i know and he is yet to hear gunshot etc but is doing all the basic foundations to the whistle and retrieving dummies etc. Still softly softly so far but dog is showing good signs at 7 months old. fenboy
He is looking good , I have that book , my only gripe with it is he sets out what the dog should be doing at this age and what it should be doing at that age etc. Dogs do not work like that and I think it may be confusing to a new trainer or force them to rush things . I think it is a decent reference rather than a training plan.
aga man
Cheers fenboy, yes i totally agree, all dogs are different and i have had labs that are further on at this age and others that are no where near. I do have some very limited experience of training labs but i am finding the book helpful as guide or as you say reference. Thanks for the advice and if he if turns out half as good as your yellow lab i will be very happy.

A few people on here have mentioned how good the yellow dog ( Drake ) is doing well and I suppose he is in some respects but he still has a long way to go before he is at the level I want. His biggest fault at the moment is not using his nose enough , he can go into headless chicken mode when hunting for a dummy . At the moment if I could take the best of both dogs and make another I would have a incredible one !
