mudpatten Posted May 31, 2016 Report Share Posted May 31, 2016 (edited) None of the boating magazine/forums are telling me any thing different about small boat towing and trailer manufacture than we`ve already discussed. Personally, I think there is a difference between selling on a home made trailer which otherwise complies with the Construction and Use Regulations etc. I do`nt believe that that onward sale means that it would have to have been subject to the sort of commercial type approval that you describe. Firms like Indespension who specialise in the supply of parts for home trailer construction seem still to be in business. However, I`m happy to find a traffic police officer and pick his brains. rjimmer Posted May 31, 2016 Report Share Posted May 31, 2016 Just like the tickets that you have to have on building sites to be insured, insurance companies might insist that a trailer complies with regulations to be covered. If you build the trailer to comply with the regulations, that is what I first said was necessary, but without the evidence to show plod, you might get delayed a long time on your journey. mudpatten Posted June 1, 2016 Report Share Posted June 1, 2016 (edited) Rjimmer - I spoke to no less than 6 recently retired police Traffic officers, currently serving ones are now an extreme rarity, and, after much head scratching `cos it`s relatively new legislation, it transpires that you`re right and I`m wrong! Any new trailer does indeed require approval. The whole thing looks very complicated and is an EU law forced upon us from Brussels that we can hopefully ditch in the near future. Fortunately the law is not retrospective so any trailer that I do build will have been constructed before the law was introduced. I bow to your superior knowledge.
