I have cheap and cheerful Chinese bipods on all my rifles - from .22lr to .308W - and they are fine. All 6 have probably cost me less than one Harris.

this ^^^^, iv never actually had a decent (read - expensive) one so i dont really know what i may, or may not be, missing out on :good:

Good for you two, if they are doing the job why worry, a lot of bra nd name snobery in shooting i always feel, how things work is what counts at the end of the day. And these days many brand names are made in china any way just badged up . .

I have 2 different size Harris and many years down the line I'm happy.

You have to work out your usage and then decide on size. If you only need a bipod once or twice a year then you may well find a cheaper brand perfectly adequate, but anyone who uses them a bit needs quality.

For field work make sure it is swivel!

I accept that to some extent, but I would suggest grass roots shooters and Pest Controllers don't give a toss about brand snobbery.

Have had all sorts over the years, Harris, deben, atlas, cheap Chinese. All have done the same job, some better than others but at a cost.

Chinese Harris works just fine but cheaper metal so it wears quicker than the Harris. One I have here is about 10years old now and the hole where the spring it's on main body is better a little elongated, other than that, it's fine. About 3rd the cost of Harris

The atlas I didn't like, yes issue the job but didn't can't and lock like a Harris style. Alot of money but well put together. I have the Chinese copy here and it's better but then I made parts for it to tighten it up so can preloaded the pod now. Again, still not the best at cant lock. Gone back to my Harris style.

Harris no question for normal field shooting and there is a massive range of std and non std accessories to suit

There are better for specialist needs but you just can't beat them - even when they are copied the firm's just cut corners as they need to undercut at lower volume

Duno i distinctly remember being told in no uncertain terms my cheap crappy Baikak MP153 would never last the season out, And how i should have invested my money in a popular italian brand 3.5 inch semi. that was in 2006. ;)

A grass roots shooter wouldn't know anything about Italian 3.5" semis, they all use Baikals! :good:

Just wondering with these bipods. I'm in the camp for if it works then use it regardless of brand/cheapness. On my .22lr and air rifles I use just cheap Harris style bipods but waiting for my .243 ticket and wonder if people find that the cheap ones work on the bigger centrefires???
