Thunderbird
Anyone got back into Vinyl? A few people I know have and are enjoying the experience of 'putting on a record' once in a while when time allows. A few of the youngsters are getting into it and one has bought the latest Muse album just on vinyl. I remember vinyl being a richer, fuller sound. I'm thinking about it, apparently modern amps work well with vinyl as long as the original recording is high quality enough (or not exclusively digital?). Any experiences to share? felly100
I spent my teens and twenties with an LP on my lap.
keg
A good amp shouldn't make any difference to whether you are listening to analogue or vinyl. Vinyl will be smoother as it's not "sampled" but will be "noiser" because of all the cud that can collect in the groove. Vinyl is coming back into vogue a little bit but downloads are still way ahead.

From what I see modern amps are using valves again so they should be fine with vinyl. Just the same, and amp is an amp, it amplifies a source! Dekers
I notice there is a selection of Technics 1200/1210 available as well, if you are going to do it you need the right deck!
Budice
Just got a used turntable here, loving it!! Debating what vinyl to buy now lol Been listening to some 30 + years old vinyl, still in good condition and sounding great. Decided to buy any music we want on vinyl then convert it to MP3 when we get a USB turntable for use in the car I notice there is a selection of Technics 1200/1210 available as well, if you are going to do it you need the right deck! Technics SL 1200 series are being relaunched, have you seen the suggested retail, somewhere in the region of £4K apparently

Edit They seem to have gone up a bit, I should have bought a couple back then.. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Technics-SL1200-GLD-Gold-Limited-Edition-DJ-Turntables-Decks-PAIR-New-In-Box-/222105632363 Edited May 23, 2016 by Dekers

CharlieT
Like all things old, I dumped my Gyrodec with SME arm when discs came out, together with all my records.
MrPhantom
Have a look at a Rega P3 deck if you are just starting out. Very easy to set up, great sound and fairly inexpensive. Upgrade to a better deck later on if you feel the need.... Note, this can become a seriously expensive hobby!

Made an absolute fortune! even by today's standards, they are pound for pound the best and most robust DJ deck in the world. that being said, dependant on budget, set up and whether or not you have an ear for quality, direct drive isn't the way to go. on a high end set up with the appropriate amps, speakers and cables you want a good quality belt driven deck. it will remove any motor noise, which believe me, IS noticeable on a top end system. for every day use on a normal stereo set up, anything will do as long as the pitch controls are good!!!! Fuji Shooter
I sold my pair of 1210s a couple of years ago, that was a silly mistake. I should have a pair of Kams still in the loft I should dig out an have a play with. Interesting article I read the other day that said lots of people buy the vinyl but never play it, they listen to the MP3 and just look at the artwork. I guess it is a bit like books, nothing better than actually having a new hard back book in your hand.
Fatcatsplat
Nothing captures the rawness of vinyl - I got back on a turntable a year or so ago and it don't half bring the music back to life. Quite good fun teaching the kids how to cue tracks up as well.
four-wheel-drive
A while ago I got myself a new record player and a small amp so that I could play some of my old records the whole set up only cost me about £150 but as the saying goes you only get what you pay for and to be honest it is not up to much but being not that well off I cannot afford to buy the quality equipment like some of you so I do not think that it will be getting much use. What headshell? We also sold Rotel, Nakamichi, B&W DM220s & 330s, Castle Speakers & Aiwa auto reverse cassette decks.
