After speaking to Terry Bakerboy who's been coaching her, he suggested that I try AC Sporting Targets just next door to kill some time while I wait for her. I may be on my own, or possibly taking friend of a friend round with me, but just wondered if anyone else is out there and wanted to catch up possibly? I've not shot there before so looking forward to checking out a new ground. I would normally be there most of the day on Saturday but I am off to Owls Lodge for their Saturday registered instead. Has your friend a licence and if not were you hoping to let him have a go? Just because you won't be allowed to do that - pretty strict and most new people to the club have safety check first out on one of the ranges with a member of staff. I like it, its my local club and they have usually a good fitasc, couple of compak layouts, dtl and skeet. DTL is on the skeet layout and one compak is on the easier fitasc layout. Do I still need a safety check myself before I can shoot too then? Do they prefer people to book in ahead for it or is it a quick check to make sure you're safe? I think they may ask you just to go onto a compak layout probably "The Cowshed" and just be watched probably by Brian whilst you take a few shots to ensure you are a safe shooter even with a licence - take your licence with you. You don't need to book in as far as I know there should be someone if not Brian to just check you out when you arrive. Then you can go off and shoot to your hearts content. It's very nice, compact, and friendly so far -- We DID do the safety tests before being allowed on our own. We'll be there on saturday (It's supposed to rain, but they have a compak range that is covered). Look for a frenchman with a small redhead, that's us :-) We did do some compak and some skeet at AC so far -- haven't figured out how the stations at the end do, it's rather confusing it seems, some sort of overlapping range... The only little 'down' I noticed is that you get the sun in the eyes on the 2/3 stations on the skeet range. I even managed to shoot one of the bird with the wrong eye closed :-) We visited the West London Shooting School too, because it's 'there' -- lovely looking ground, prices are very similar to E.J Churchill it seems (aka £££). The stands that are front/right of the cabin.. Anyway, we liked it. Anyway, we'll have another look next saturday -- Mrs is trying to book a lesson too, we'll see how doable this is. buze Posted June 11, 2016 Report Share Posted June 11, 2016 Nice to meet you earlier Paul, hope your lady had fun and didn't spend too much ;-) Here I had a so-so day, BUT my own Mrs did her very best score ever (by quite a lot!) of 17/25 at the stand we shot at the bottom, near the rifle range -- Seems the little 12 bore, and some tuition is starting to pay off. Needless to say, she's over the moon with that as you can imagine -- it was the first day shooting gun down for her as well, so perhaps the fact she doesn't have time to think/faff around with the gun is helping! Quite easy to rattle through the cartridges in the Cow Shed! I'd never shot anything really regimented before, normally I just rock up and and shoot whatever I fancy, so it was a nice, different experience. Glad your lady had a good time, and shot well at Stand 4. That overhead from behind tower was tricky from a few of the stands. Thanks everyone for the tips. Like Michel and I were discussing, it's very refreshing to find a hobby/sport where everyone is absolutely friendly, encouraging and welcoming.
