Exudate Posted June 13, 2016 Report Share Posted June 13, 2016 Myself and my shooting buddy were very kindly invited to a simulated game shoot this weekend gone, in Bedfordshire. It's set up just like a driven game shoot, where you stand and shoot from a peg, but instead of pheasants or suchlike being put over you, it's clays. There were 5 drives all together, each one consisting of around 300 clays that appear overhead at random. You buddy up on the peg, with one of you shooting and the other loading. You then swap over halfway through each drive. We both fired approximately 350 cartridges each over a few hours. My shoulder is somewhat sore! Exudate Posted June 13, 2016 Author Report Share Posted June 13, 2016 It was £80 for the day, and 350 cartridges at 15p each is £52.50. With petrol there and back, I reckon it cost me around £140. Food and drink was included (and very nice it was, too.) The venue was a disused quarry, and each drive was in a different location of varying topography, which kept things interesting, to say the least. The last one had the pegs at the bottom of a steep cliff face, and the clays were launched off of the top, to simulate high driven birds. Excellent fun! ditchman Posted June 18, 2016 Report Share Posted June 18, 2016 went on a simulated game shoot many years ago...,...where the targets were 2 dimensional pheasants and partridges made out out a tough nylon sheet and the wings were spring loaded so when the shot hit it....the wings "snapped" back and it twizzled down...they were launched off some sort of ramp.............it was very expensive even then but very very realistic as the birds could be made to fly straight or curve left or right.....you could only use light cartridges and size 9 as any bigger the targets would be too badly damaged.............. ............ive never seen the system in operation since............ It's held at the Devil's Pit 4x4 course and run by the same people, on the A6 just outside of Barton-Le-Clay. They don't advertise the fact that the do simulated game days on their website, but I can assure you that they do, and that it's excellent!
