Wild broods

Recommended Posts

I saw this amazing brood of fourteen wild Grey partridges yesterday looking a picture of health. The parents were very attentive. Not all of them are in the picture - the little tinkers were all over the place but there were indeed twelve chicks with the two adults.

Lovely!

Did you by chance catch them up as an insurance policy?

Been on the road a bit over the weekend, and as soon as I got on the fen roads, I started to see poults everywhere on the evening stubbles. 5's as well as smaller numbers. This morning I counted 13 well on Frenchies excluding their parents. It looks like the second wave will help us a lot here. Seeing some good numbers of wild mallard around too ....

On this morning's walk over the stubble field opposite my house Jasper was unusually excited. The reason became clear when he flushed a covey of wild Grey partridge which flew almost over my house. There were at least fourteen in the covey, possibly more. I have never seen or heard of this particular lot before.
