Gun dealer mark up?

CZ and Tikka seem extremely popular rifles. Are they popular because they are excellent rifles or because the gun dealers get excellent profit margins?

Just a thought.

Most supermarket items have more percentage margin on them than guns.

You would be surprised at the level of margin, and being popular means there are plenty of dealers and plenty of places to shop (GENERALLY), this will commonly mean sales are generated by discount rather than excess margins.

In the case of CZ and Tikka, they both happen to make good, accurate, reliable rifles, and in the market place generally they are nowhere near the top end on price!

EVERY supermarket item has higher markup with odd exceptions of loss leaders etc!

Not if you're talking about margin to the retailer. Retailer margins are super slim across most products (especially so with supermarkets) so I would expect the percent margin on a gun to a gun dealer would be a good bit higher than buying a box of shreddies in Tesco.

I have worked in both industries and that is not anything close to my findings.

The BIG supermarkets have MASSIVE margins on most items, smaller retailers may not, gun trade margins are really quite tight generally!

But you obviously have access to some other figures!

I used to get the tackle and gun trade magazine, it showed the RRP mark up for most shooting / fishing products new to the market. At the RRP the mark ups were unreal, but in real terms not may shops sell at that.

PS - fishing gear defno had a higher mark up than shooting.

Always go for used weapons myself.

Can get a much better deal that way.

As long as it is in good order and has been well looked after you get better bangs for your bucks.

More likely to get some movement on the asking price from the RFD or private owner.

Even The Memsahib was somewhat used but has turned out first class.
