I have been shooting pigeons and corvids over laid barley (actually its areas of laid black grass, that has taken the barley with it) this week and had some good days.

I should add that this barley is well turned, without many green ears about.

Apart from pigeons and corvids there have been an encouraging number of what must be mallard family groups coming into the barley.

Its usual to see the ducks on harvested barley stubble, but I have never seen so many on laid crop.

Hopefully, these early birds will mean second broods about as well.
