Crop Identification sticky.

A neighboroughing field on my permission has always grown wheat while I've shot there but this year he's got something that I haven't seen before about 2.5 ft tall. I didn't take a picture thinking I'd find it online but haven't had any joy.

Made me think that we should have a sticky on PigeonWatch so members can post pics get them Id'd by someone clever and have it all in one place when I'm looking for something next time.

I'll get a picture when I'm up there next.

I think it would be a good idea to be honest, I've learnt a lot from this forum with regards to pigeon shooting with regards set ups and when and where to shoot etc.

It would be a useful addition for new shooters who after all we should be helping and encouraging

Some people haven't had the benefit of either growing up in rural locations or having someone to teach them, and look to forums for help, there's so much to learn for us and there are some very knowledgeable members on here who could undoubtedly help

The trouble is nowadays there is such a vast aray of things being grown on our farmland, game covers, conservation strips and things grown as biofuel to name a few that are not even crops as such.

As belly very rightly says just ask on the forum and if you can get photo's even better. There is a good number of seasoned pigeon shooters here and even one or two farmers.

A crop 'sticky' is a good idea but would take a lot of putting together.

Crop ID requests are pretty pointless without pictures. Since you first posted about this particular crop sixteen days have passed and in that time the crop could easily have been harvested. The crop could have been Rye of which there has been an enormous volume grown this year and whole cropped. If the field has been harvested follow some tram lines and you will find some ears to take a picture of.

A second look at it the other night it's definitely not hemp, it's oats, there is another plant that has taken over some patches (I presume some sort of weed) which is what I was trying to ID but due to it not being my permission and about 8ft of stinging %#$ I can't get a decent enough picture. I did look around for the same thing on my land but found none

I still think some sort of page like Bakerboy has provided would be helpful as a reference that could be added to.
