defender
If I ask for expanding ammunition hollow point on my fac application in 22lr and 17hmr for rabbits, will that be the only ammunition I will be allowed to buy? It's my first application Edited July 23, 2016 by defender
Imperfection
No. You can also purchase solid.
fortune
If you want and need HP/SP or any type of expanding ammunition then you must specify It on your application. If you are only going to shoot targets on ranges it is unlikely that you will get an allocation for expanding.
walshie
If you have expanding on your ticket you can buy expanding and solid ammo. If you don't have expanding you can only buy solid.
CharlieT
It is worth noting that once your application to shoot live quarry as your good reason to acquire has been accepted, the police must condition your FAC to acquire expanding ammunition as a matter of course. There is no need to request it. You can then buy expanding or solids.
defender
Thanks for the advice everyone, it's hard to get through and get it right. Don't want it to fail or become difficult over a technicality.

It shows you know what you are talking about and removes the possibility of having to send the certificate back if expanding ammo is missed off. Would be a bit embarrassing if you turned up at the firearms dealer and asked for expanding if it is not on your ticket!
English
Defender, My FAC was due for renewal and this time round the Police have insisted that I have SEPERATE allocations for both Non Expanding and Expanding so as an example I now have two different line entries for each calibre where I have Expanding and Target Ammo. Rim Fire
i am on my sixth renewal and never had to put in for expanding ammo as said if you are getting your FAC for vermin controll you will auto get expanding ammo weather you want it or not solid is for target only not for shooting any live quarry Edited August 1, 2016 by Rim Fire
Dannyboy220
Kent only gave me expanding. Wouldn't allow solid as I'm only shooting vermin. If I use a different gun shop for my ammo than usual. Then they always want to check I have condition for expanding. Nothing in law that says you can't shoot live quarry with solids with the exception of deer. What have they actually written.
Dannyboy220
Hi Charlie, no nothing written specifically. When he was talking through my application he questioned my need for solids on the ammunition section. As in not a member of a target club I have no need for them and said to double up on the expanding allowance which I did. Hi Charlie, no nothing written specifically.
