Moderator bushes

I've just bought a new Widcat Evolution moderator and need to have the end bush machined to fit my barrel so should it be a tight, no gap fit (which will leave marks on the barrel) or should it be a snug/loose fit? I'm thinking of going for the snug/loose fit so what gap should be left, is 1mm all round enough (17.5mm bush hole for a 15.5mm barrel)?

I was reading a post about this the other day on another forum (I think) and the general consensus was to leave a small gap, about a quarter of a mill if I remember correctly. I checked my others and the gap varies from an air gap to a quite a bit of wobble when not tight. I'm going to machine my own and shall leave about a quarter a mil max, just enough to be loose when barrel's hot.

Just found it,

Spoke to the wildcat suppliers. Apparently there should be a small gap around the outside to allow for expansion of the barrel. The bloke I spoke to wasnt 100% sure on how much of a gap should be there but advised to leave the thickness of a piece of paper?

Excellent, thanks for this.

I placed a thin strip of tape where the moderator stops on the barrel. It will help eliminate any marks.

Think that's quite a popular thing, tape or heat shrink. With the one I have to do it's for the new .204, and it's going to be a wet weather rough gun so I couldn't give a monkeys whether it gets marked or not
