Shooting Ranges South of England

Help me out please.

My Rifle Club has been shooting at Bisley for well over 30 years but the NRA have seriously ****** me and many other people off this year.

It has been an uphill nightmare to book 200 yards (and other distances) and from the information I have this looks likely to continue next year as well. Another joke is the so called, "automated booking system", it isn't, and never has been since it was introduced some years back!

Put simply, I have had about enough of their antiquated ways and disgraceful treatment of customers.

I have a requirement for 100-1000 Yard shooting for my Club, but primarily 100-200 yard, if it really came to it I could use Bisley for the longer distances.

Anyone know where I can relocate my club shoots to, say within 30 miles of Bisley.

Cheers

Deckers,

Would I be right in thinking that the NRA are allowing the MOD / Civil Nuclear Police to dominate the bookings on Short Siberia and milking it as a cash cow?

There are some other really great MOD ranges just a few miles away at the Complex's at Ash and there are a couple of others - I will see what I ca find for you? and re -post here later.

Following the earlier post on this – I’ve looked up the two MOD ranges that I know of which are really right on the doorstep of Bisley if you guys are based in that area.

There are several ranges at “Ash” and the last time I was there they were really nicely looked after.

I’ve shot at Stoney Castle Range, as well and this is also another really nice range.

As far as I know these are looked after for the MOD and administered by Landmarc

Stoney Castle Range, Surrey Description

Stoney Castle is an MoD 600 m range close to the south of Bisley. It is set in delightful heath and woodlands.

It doesn’t matter if you only want to shoot 100/200 you can shoot there at the distances you choose?

The Stoney Castle range is the scene for the Army Target Rifle Club's annual "Classic SMLE" competition : another not-to-be-missed occasion for Enfield Rifle enthusiasts.

Getting there

Turn right out the Main Gate at Bisley Camp, turn left at Pirbright Barracks up over the canal, then round the traffic triangle to go straight through the narrow railway arch. Straight on over the brow of the hill to the traffic lights at Pirbright Village. Sharp right into School Lane, follow that round for 2km, look out for the range entrance on the left hand side.

I hope this is some help to you – if the contacts aren’t quite right put up a note and I will get them from our own area Landmarc team.

Jason has nailed it for the other range I was looking for with the link he gives to Old Windsor, it came up in my search this morning whilst I was looking for another MOD range which I knew existed, that is Henly Gate which uses the same danger area and I presume is like Stoney Castle (I have not been to or shot on that one)

I've been to most ranges around Pirbright mainly doing work for Landmarc, and there is a lot of ranges set up mostly to fire into one area. I used the link above to get an idea of where I was going to as I wasn't supplied with postcodes or addresses.

Henley park range is interesting as the range wardens office is located at the end of the range near the butts, when down there the first time I c*****d myself as the soldiers were given the go ahead to fire and you can hear the crack and wizz off the rounds going past the office which is set behind a large bank!

All good stuff though.

MANY THANKS to everyone for their help. :good::good:

Just arrived back in the UK after a short European break so looks like I have some work to do today.

The NRA is seriously ******* everybody off, don't worry its not just you.

Apart from putting the prices up again, letting the police have short Siberia, butt zer0 or whatever they call it and the Winians range. So they reopened the Cheylesmore and guess what! The police now have that too.

The old pistol galleries stand empty but you cant book them, go figure that out

The NRASC was very popular on weekdays, they used to get 60 people some days but they stopped it BECAUSE IT WAS TOO BUSY. Yet they never even tried to organise squadding or all the other things that anybody with half a brain would see as obvious

They kicked the muzzle loaders out apparently because they wanted their clubhouse for offices

Every time I go there in the summer the place is full of custom cars, American cars, motorbikes, music events etc
