checked out some barley stubble yesterday, nought about so thought I would hang around for a while see if things changed..they didn't..

While driving around the perimeter I found around 40 shell cases and 4 unused cartridges, would do some people think they can abuse the trust of the landowers and treat the place like a dumping ground.

rant over..

never fired a shot, hey ho it was nice to get out

found out they have had two good bags yet still cannot be bothered to tidy up

I drove past Malcolm's fields near Evesham this morning at 06:30 hrs and birds were piling out of town. You should keep an eye on those fields.

On another note, I drove up the A46 and saw a young man standing in the road with his arms pointing in two different directions towards Game Fair traffic. This might have been your boy.

One thing I learnt from a early age was respect of the countryside , why people leave cartridge cases and rubbish behind is beyond me , on some of the land I go on I am lucky enough to be the only one they allow on , so if I am wild fowling or after pigeons I always make sure every case is taken back home and put in the rubbish bin , most people would do the same but its the odd one who don't who make it hard for the ones who are trying to get the first foot on the ladder for gaining pigeon shooting land to go on .

My old boss on the estate where I worked would walk off while he was talking to you to pick up a sweet paper or a bit of paper blowing about , and once a month we all had to attend working parties for a morning to go down all the roads and hedges to pick up litter then the local council would come and cart it away.

He once found some drink cans in a wood after a Saturday roost shoot and his first reaction was to ban all the shooting in the woods which at the time we would issue around 40 permits , but as he couldn't prove it was the blokes shooting in that wood he just made a note of it on the following years permits. so please show the same respect.

I'm lucky that the farmer I shoot on the land owner has given me control of who shoots on his land after discussion with himself, sadly just this year alone I have had to band three people for the highlighted reason, a written permission is always given and at the bottom it always states the land is to be left as is found. It angers me when people cant be bothered to clear up there empty shells let alone there other rubbish. But on a positive not I now have three new lads who now have permissions who are also first time pigeon shooters with a little guidance from myself they are do very well!!! One lad yesterday evening on his only second ever pigeon shoot came back with 137 in back of his car!!!

One shot I wont forget I called a George digweed shot, pigeon was stupid high up and going like the clappers dropped with a clean kill single shot!!! The youngest made a mean pigeon curry kebab IN THE HIDE too!!!

If you use a SxS or O/U it's dead easy. Back of the hand in to a bucket. S/A's chuck 'em about a bit but with one of those sticks with a magnet on the end it's easy.

People who shoot in the countryside shouldn't leave rubbish. Leave it as you found it. Very simple.

  • 2 weeks later...

Littering in any form is one of my biggest annoyances, just no need for it, in the street of fields, always use fibre wads personally, I often clean up other people's empties that I find....just can't leave them as it bugs me so much.
