It's almost certainly not going to cut it. You can get special air rifle pumps and these will do the necessary pressure required. Kennett says 300 bar, I think he means that's the pressure of most dive cylinders used to fill air rifles. most air rifle reserves are between 200 and 250 bar, which is way beyond the realms of what most compressors do, so look at getting either a diver's cylinder or an air rifle stirrup pump.

The number of shots varies wildly depending on your budget. the big, 400/500cc bottles on daystates give shots in the hundreds - but you have to pay a lot for the gun. They start around the £1k mark. A BSA Ultra SE will give you 50-60 and you'd pay about £500 brand new. Personally, I went down the route of daystates, then moved away from them. Since then, I've never felt like I missed the shot count. my HW110 gives around the 120 mark and that's plenty for me.

There are some great second hand deals to be had if you're not in any hurry to buy, which come with the charging mechanism. Dive bottles are more expensive to buy and must be tested every couple of years or so. Pumps are cheaper and there's no extra cost of testing, but can let moisture inside the cylinder, so it's worth getting one that removes it as the air's going in. Opinion's split on whether they do indeed let moisture in though - evo will come on here and tell you about a friend's AA S410 that had rusted badly on the inside of his gun's cylinder, I used one and never had any problems though! I use a bottle now because when I had a Daystate, pumping up a 400cc bottle to 230 bar was exhausting! smaller cylinders are fine, but once your get to the 200cc and 230 bar stage, it's pretty hard work.

hope that helps

I have just purchase a kral bullpup PCP, easy to maintain with a pump. A touch over £400 for the gun £130 for the pump. All much more reasonable than Daystate and certainly does the job. Now I know it is not the same as a Daystate but it does all and more than I need with 12 shot mag.
