remmy1100 Posted August 10, 2016 Report Share Posted August 10, 2016 well last couple days saw our first 3 fields of barley cut and some hay a quick outing by my pal David on Monday to the hay field resulted in a dog fox and a further seven spotted on the barley stubble,so last night armed with the fox-pro we set out to these fields on arrival the farmer had stacked the bails in middle of fields which was ideal so we climbed up three bales high which was tricky to say the least ,caller on and short while later had a fox in sight at 200+ yds mousing around at edge of field in high grass kept showing interest but just turned around and continued chasing mice despite various calls i was confident on the shot but david said to wait for a bit but it soon disappearing into hedge,looked behind us to see fox coming in like a rocket before quartering us for a while till i finally dropped him at 70 yds ,next field i called a fox out of the high rape, was Davids turn to shoot and he missed it was some random excuse made pushed on to next field where David had missed another fox on Monday ( getting to be a habit think hes gone to the dark side or stress of his impending imprisonment sorry i mean marriage nothing showed here so we went to hay field on arrival david spotted two foxes same place as he dropped the one on monday but as we entered field they had disappeared caller on and 5 min later fox screaming in from behing quick relocation to bonnet and dropped it cleanly at 130 yards another dog nothing else showed so we returned to first field back on bales caller on 10 mins later had another fox come from behind this time davids said his shot had connected with the fox at 120 yds despite no entry exit wounds my thoughts were heart attack anyway still some to sort and no doubt many more when rest of crops come off , davids from monday last nights foxes Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

It may be worth suggesting that he picks up a dead one from off the road and then he can claim he shot it to save the pee taking Keep up the good work. Been shooting foxes for years never really bothered taking photos of the dead stuff just tend to get on with the job in hand! Its our best 'start' to our season, June thro to end of the next May, for a couple of years. Last year we only had 60 all season already got 45 so looks like a busy one. Its our best 'start' to our season, June thro to end of the next May, for a couple of years. Last year we only had 60 all season already got 45 so looks like a busy one. I only started taking pics more recently as I tend to text a pic over to the farmers to show what I have been up to so that keeps them happy. masmiffy Posted August 12, 2016 Report Share Posted August 12, 2016 I only started taking pics more recently as I tend to text a pic over to the farmers to show what I have been up to so that keeps them happy. Sounds like you may well top 100 if you keep on the way that you are. Tend to call and text and leave it at that never been asked for proof. One farm we look after the shoot on as well so its in our own interest to do the job as well as we can. Lat year was the first in ages we hadnt had over 100 so I guess we had done a job in reducing numbers. Do that 3 nights a week and an essay on the nights adventure with pictures is the furthest thing from my mind. Here you go!! Gun is a Howa 1500 in .243 laminate thumbhole stock 22" varmint barrel, Sonic mod, topped with a Zeiss Duralyt 3-12 x 50 scope. Plus bipod. ammo Norma 58 grain v-max Second rifle another Howa 1500 in .223 Hogue stock, Wildcat mod, topped with a Pulsar Digisight LRF N870. Plus bipod (not used this combo much yet) ammo Hornaday 53 grain v-max superformance. Ranges vary between 60 - 250yds all depending on the stupidity of the fox! I guess most at around 100 - 150yds Both rifles zeroed (from truck top) at 100yds Lamp a Nightforce Enforcer 240 with amber filter (also have red green and blue but seldom use when foxing) Call is my hand - it works for us!!!! Truck is a specially adapted Suzuki Vitara with a flat plaform roof and a 'tank turret' hatch its the dogs danglies for this game!!!
