That Was Lucky

Spoke to the farmer earlier. He'd seen a right scruffy fox while combining. Thought I'd give it a go and I'm up through the truck roof squeezed in between the combine and the field fence which runs alongside the farm track. I was 11 paces from the nearest gatepost, the gate propped open across the track. The fox came up the track from behind, went around the open gate, saw me and legged it. I hit the Colibri button and to my amazement it came back through the gate and stopped by the post whereupon it fell down. Eleven paces is now my record of the short variety.

Well done mate. What did you shoot it with?

Ignoring those dispatched in traps, my closest record fox is about 5 feet from the muzzle.

28g of size 5 shot acts like solid slug at that range, in case you were ever wondering

Cant beat that for range. Closest for me was about 8-10 yards with 42 grams of BB through the 12 bore.

Wasn't expecting that so had the 22Hornet with a 50g SPSX. Never had time to refocus the scope from where I was half expecting it to come so things were a tad blurred. It was head on and figured it would strike about scope height low so went for the bottom neck and got it centre chest.

Nicely done mate.

The problem with close range rifle shots is that your brain tells you it will shoot high where as it actualy shoots low so you have to aim high which does not seem logical , the last cub I shot last week with .243 was 15yds just aimed 8" high and hoped for the best result was not pretty .

11 paces is pretty damn close...you did well.ive missed more foxs below 30yds than longe range ones...my closest is 18 paces...don't no what it is with close range foxs but miss more than I hit....give me a 150yd + shot anyday..

Not really! He is the BFG!

Great when it works out, isn't it :)

Had a few lucky incidents like that too :good:

Good heavens, just how high is your sight height, or was it some form of NV?
