Divine intervention or what ?

On the rape stubble today . It was a nice day for pigeon shooting ,bit of a stiff breeze and overcast for most of the day .

I had shot and picked a dozen birds .These birds I had put out for decoys and it was at this point I noticed that I had lost my specs . A £170 worth of glasses that I have only had for a month ,this was going to be a very expensive pigeon shooting day . The only thing that I do was to have a good look for them . I spent the next half an hour going throug the pattern and pulling the hide to bits looking for them to no avail . I envisage a trip to spec savers and shelling out for a new. Pair .

I carried on shooting and soon shot another 3 birds that I put out as decoys . I now had 15 shot birds out as decoys and decided that was enough and any more birds shot I would pick up and bag . The next bird came in and I killed it clean just to the left of the pattern at about 35 paces . I went out to pick this bird and low and behold the bird had landed not 6 inches from my specs ,was I pleased ,either divine intervention or I was very lucky .

I finished picking 57 birds ,lost at least 6 and missed a few . A super day out . Incidently Nige and Ian I was on the field behind the haulage yard and Dave was on the field next door under the spreading oak he managed a few but not as many as me . He said that he could see the birds crossing his field ,seeing my magnet and diving in to get at it . At 16 .00 hrs there were about 500 on the field next to the wood .

That was lucky, I know the sinking feeling when you lose something in the field and realise it will take almost a miracle to find it.

I dropped my truck keys and spent all day sweating about it, then found them laying next to the magnet battery when I packed up.

57 is a very nice bag, I would love to see 400 birds on a field, at the moment round here 4 seems a lot.
